which US model for me?

Hi folks, I'm new to this forum and need some advice.
I want a FZ6 but am confused as to which year to purchase. Wikipedia tells me that years 04, 05, and 06 models came with 97hp motors. For 07, 08, and 09 there are 'standard' models with 76hp and 'S2' models with 97hp. In looking at those later years, how do I tell which is a standand and which is a S2? Is the telltale truth in the Vin# or somewhere else?

My search is turning toward a 07 as it has upgraded front brakes but I want to make sure I am getting the higher hp.

Any help from a all knowing sage would be helpful.

BTW, I'm a mature rider in the US.

If you buy an 07 and later in the US, you're getting the S2. There is no other version here.

The 04-06 models are less catalytic smog restrictive
The 07-09 models have an additional cat converter
The 04-06 have a different gauges
The 07-09 have FZ1 gauge cluster (abundantly more clear then the puck cluster IMO)
The 07-09 I believe has an updated CPU-EFI
The 07-09 are basically a manf. attempt to update and refine the bike. I have had no complaints.:thumbup:

European models are 76 hp due to licensed rider restrictions and operating license. Restrictions depending on which country. So they make others with higher horse power.

Us models come in approx. 83 hp and up to approx.94 I believe. Just basically depends on what bike you get. Cal emissions restricted or a 48 state bike and 1st Gen (04-06) or 2nd gen (07-09).

I would start with getting a 48 state emissions bike. A 48 state or Cal emission state bike can be determined by the vin#. Or the sticker on the rear swing arm if its still there. it should state in bold lettering 48 state or Cal emission compliant. Hp will vary it is no exact science prior to having the bike dyno'd or the conditions under which the bike is dyno'd.
