im trying to save some money dont want to buy a new shock. i have a 05 fz6 the oil is 7yrs old i have the hyperpro spring ready to be put in so i was thinking of doing both at the same time.

anyone serviced/changed the oil for the rear shock

I don't think the rear shock from the FZ6 is a serviceable unit. I've looked at mine a few times and it appears to be gas charged and sealed.

True - it's not a serviceable item unless you have a shop setup to do it (lathe, welder, gas, etc. . .). There was a post/thread on here about a guy who rebuilds them on the cheap tho. . . It was within the last 5 months I'd guess. Unable to find it at a glance tho.

i dont have a service manual..whats the life expectancy of the rear shock? miles/years
Check ebay...Search FZ6 shock.....Its a guy that rebuilds the shock like Final said. I plan to send mine as soon as I can. It shows a pic of a drag bike for reference.

wow never seen that before thanks!...at first it looks like total BS but i read the reviews and the price! and it doesnt seem that bad.. maybe i can send him my hyperpro rear spring n he can install it for me?? does this allow the ability to control dampening and compression??
Nope - you need a new model for that. . .
As for wear; it all depends on how used. In a dirty environment the shaft and seal will be torn up quicker than a clean one. That's not to say the nitrogen won't or hasn't leaked out, but usually when they leak, you'll see the film of oil and crude building up around the shaft, body, and seal.

thanks for all the info! i might just respring it myself and give this guy my shock during the winter time...mine should be good then its pretty clean barely any crude on it:thumbup:

Bought a swingarm and shock off an '07 that had about 2,500 miles on it. Put them on my '04 with about 30,000 miles on it. The rear was noticeably firmer so guess they do get a little soft with age. The shock that came off was in good condition with no visable leaks or anything.
