So today i lowsided while taking a slow turn(under 30) as there was a bunch of gravel in the road. Long story short because of my frame sliders my frame is cracked....i should have got crash bars

That is a potential risk to frame sliders but I would still say you are better off with them, then with nothing.
Sorry to hear you put the bike down and experienced some bad damage. Glad you are ok though :thumbup:

+1 on what he said plus how do you know that the damage wouldnt be worse without them....glad your ok though! Do you have pics and what kind of sliders did.you have

With the frame sliders it puts a lot of the crash weight in a more concentrated location....so my guess is you dropped it pretty hard in order to crack the frame. W/o frame sliders you may not have cracked the frame but plenty of more damaged to the rest of the side of the bike

I assume that with the crash bars that distribute the force in mulitple locations would help eliminate the frame cracking. And most of the time with a cracked frame, scratched front fairing, bent and more then likely needing retapping motor mount that the bike will be totaled. Thanks for your concern im alright just a few bumps.

This. Without sliders chances are your tank is trashed, engine case is trashed, fairing, etc.

I guess i should have said Say no to these frame sliders, and if you really want protection buy crash bars instead.
Are those extended frame sliders? I would think that the longer ones are not better....more leverage to crack the frame. Or what grade the bolts are made from....cheaper metal could harm the bike more.

Yeah, that thing is way too long (that's what she said)...that's why the frame cracked. Are those supposed to be for an FZ6?
I know motovation sliders work just dandy in a crash, and they are about half that long.

I agree about the disadvantages of frame sliders and i don't use them anymore.
I put crash bars instead.
They look more safe and they don't break backbone of the bike. :thumbup:

Hope you can get it repaired or replaced.
My son did a low speed drop with my FZ and the first thing I checked was the frame by the slider. Knock on wood, there was not a crack.

I think you have the purpose of the two devices misunderstood. Crash bars are designed to protect your engine cases only, which are relatively inexpensive to replace compared to a frame and tank, which is what sliders are designed to do. Unless it just makes you feel better, I would re-evaluate the decision not to use sliders because of what you saw *bad* sliders do.
Of course, you can always depend on the crash bars protecting your frame, too. Your cases will just be sitting pretty while your frame and tank are toast.

The sliders came with the bike and they say fz on them so i guess they could have been for an fz1/8/6. Ya those crash bars dont look like they extend as far as one that i had seen. How safe do you think it would be to ride with the motor mount like that?

These are the ones i was looking at. With thoses, my bar ends, and my shad case on the back i would have been without a cracked fame. but who knows maybe not. Who wants to do a test?

Well either its getting fixxed or going to the wreckers what ever my insurance wants to do.

Seeing the pictures i think the problem was the sliders being way to long as others have said, more leverage to break stuff as others have said lol. I have sho-gun sliders and my have "tested" the left side once and the only thing that was damaged was my clutch handle, the little ballon the end broke off

Ya if I get sliders again (not that i bought those, they came with the bike) i wont get ones that have a metal base i think thats what did it.

Sorry to hear that. Thats my biggest fear with the uncaged sliders, they arent really meant for relatively high speed spills. They stick out a lot therefore protect everything on a lets say, drop at a stoplight or in your driveway, but i'm considering removing them since I'm past that beginner zone and I think if I crash at this point, it wont be any slower than 30mph.
