Hi

me and the wife planning two up trip to france.Find the current seat on my fz6 very uncomfortable on long trips.Could anyone reccomend a better replacement or seat covers to help please?
 
Yamaha makes a replacement gel seat that is a lot more comfortable, especially for 2 up riding. If you dont want to speand the money on that you can always go to a custom car seat place and have then add more padding to your existing seat.

How long are you on the bike before it's "uncomfortable"?

This is it and while I have heard both good and bad about aftermarket seats I have often found that having one made to your liking is cheaper than buying one simply because another rider thought they were a good choice. Saddles are like underwear in that they must be worn to be appreciated and all underwear are not the same.
 
after about an hour.driving to france from wales(uk) so going to be on bike for up to 5hours at a time.hope i can find some thing.


ps can anyone reccomend good top box for touring?
 
I've got the Yamaha Comfort Seat (the one with the gel) and it's fantastic. It does take a few rides to "break it in", but it's MUCH more comfortable than the stock seat.

As far as top cases, I've also got the Givi setup with a V46 topcase. I'm not sure what I would do without it! I absolutely love it and it's easily removable for those times when you don't need it. Without the case on there, the mount isn't really noticeable. It flows with the lines of the bike nicely.

By the way, that's the comfort seat in the picture without the topcase, if you're wondering what it looks like.
 
I have the Yamaha lowered seat and it it miles better than the stock seat. It appears to be made of the same stuff but the shape is different. Ask at the yamaha dealer if they can get you one. I think we can only get it i Europe.

When are you going to France?

We will be riding down to Normandy in July for a week or two.

I will find some pics of my seat and post them.

I've got a Corbin on order. Lead time is about 4 to 6 weeks. They are not inexpensive, with the back rest, about $625 USD. With the dollar being weak it may be a very good value however vs. the pound.

Be sure to call them if you do buy one. They are super helpful over the phone, their web site is a bit clunky.

Rumour has it that the Yamaha comfort seat is a bit lower and/or narrower at the front than the stock OEM seat.....can you either confirm or deny this rumour? :)
 
OneTrack, I wouldn't necessarily say the Comfort Seat is lower and narrower than the stock seat. Let's see...if you look at the stock seat, at the spot where your thighs intersect with the seat...where you're legs will be when you put your feet to the ground...it's got a pretty sharp angle downward. In fact, there's a defined line there...no gentle slope. The Comfort Seat, on the other hand, has a nice rounded edge to it. This is much easier on your thighs, especially when putting your feet to the ground. I think that's why people tend to think it's lower and narrower...because it's easier to get your feet flat, at least IMO.

I'm going to post these pictures (be warned, they're crappy and quickly done...I'll get better ones later). I can't wait to see the comments after seeing these...:rockon:

Ok...in the picture with 3 seats...it goes, Stock-left, Comfort Seat-middle, Corbin-right. The others are just comparison shots of each one against the other. Any other questions...feel free to ask!
 
Do you know if the comfort seat is made for the 2005? I could not find it on the website. Do you prefer the comfort of the Corbin to the Yamaha Comfort seat? I am 5'3" and I did have the stock seat shaved, but I am still tippy toed on slight inclines. I talked to Corbin and they can get the nose narrower by giving it a 'nosejob' so just wondering what your preference is since I don't have the luxury of testing them out.

Hi. I've seen some great examples on the site below. You can even build your own saddle on line. I don't know if there is a dealer nearby were you live.
Not mine but you see what I mean.

Hey boo. The Comfort Seat WILL fit the '05 (as I have an '06 and nothing changed other than color between those years). I just got the Corbin in the other day (bought it from a member over on SBN for $185 shipped!) I really have only had one ride on the Corbin, so I haven't had the time to evaluate it properly just yet. I will tell you that mine is the "carbon fiber" design and everyone says it's more slippery than other designs...and they're right! But, it's not so slippery as to be a detriment to the seat. First impressions of the Corbin, though, are that it's AMAZING. It has more of a "cup" shape, meaning you sit down in the seat more than the stock or Comfort Seat. I'm loving it so far.

What I'm really wanting to do, by having both the Comfort Seat and Corbin at the same time is ride on both of them equally, and evaluate which one I want to keep and which one I want to sell. I can tell you that the Comfort Seat is DAMNED comfortable! I just need a little more saddle time in the Corbin to make a decision.
