****CORRECTION**** The ride is Saturday, 8/6****

Hello, I'm Mr_McBride and this will be my first group ride on this forum. I have been leading group rides for several years on other forums, but this will be my first for this forum.

366 miles of some of the SE's best roads. This is right at 11 hours of seat time, so if you don't like to ride, don't show up. This ride is not for beginners. You need to be at least an intermediate rider for this ride. We will be riding at a fast pace and will not be stopping very often.

Also, be respectful of others. Show up with your tank topped off. Also, if you show up at 0816, try to catch up as we'll only be 1 minute up the road.

I'm going to come back and edit this post with all of the food/fuel stops we'll be making.

Meet at the Shell station at the top of 400 @ 0800. Kickstands up @0815
1st Leg:
Dahlonega, Ga to Tellico Plains, TN
120 miles, 3 hour 13 minutes

1st Leg: Dahlonega, GA to Tellico Plains, TN

Featuring hwy 129, Joe Brown Hwy & Hwy 68

Lunch in Tellico Plains

2nd Leg:
Tellico Plains, TN to Franklin, NC
125 miles, 3 hours 40 minutes

2nd Leg: Tellico Plains, TN to Franklin, NC

Featuring the Cherohala Skyway & the HellBender with an optional ride across the Dragon

3rd Leg:
Franklin, NC to Dahlonega, GA
121 miles, 3 hours 50 minutes

3rd Leg: Franklin, NC to Dahlonega, GA

Featuring Hwy 64, Hwy 28 (my fav), Warwoman, 197, 348, 180, 60, ending at Riders Hill.

**************
I'm going to add more detail to this post, but I wanted to go ahead and get the basic route up and see who is interested in joining me?

As for my riding style, I like to ride the The Pace

I like to ride fast. As a group leader I will stop the group at every turn (change of road) so that 'No one gets left behind'. Between the turns, ride at your own pace.

I look forward to meeting and riding with some new faces here.

So, who's in?

Man, I'd love to go, but I think I need a bit more bike time before trying a 10 hour ride. So far the longest I've been in the saddle at one stretch has been about an hour and a half. I live in Lawrenceville Ga, so it's not too far. I'll be looking out for your next ride, maybe I could go then!

I wish I could find my way to Georgia in the next 2 weeks, that looks to be a wonderful adventure. I'm sure it will be HOT and humid but that sure beats cold and dreary.

BTW, you meant Saturday August 6th, correct?

as it stands right now im going no matter what and do you mind if i send invites to a couple people, and also ill will say that i dont know if i will be able to complete the entire route but i will try my hardest because it sounds awsome, but this will be my longest attempt since i got out of the hospitol and my surgery, i had a lung collapse back around the end of may and had major surgery to fix me back up, i spent 2 weeks in there, and a month recovering. I am feeling 100% better now but my right side is still tender and i dont have all my stamina back yet...but one more time im going no matter what and ill die trying if i have to:D

PM me about inviting others. I need to weed out any beginners from this ride.

For everyone else, if you don't consider yourself at least an intermediate rider then this ride is not for you. We will be riding at a fast pace on roads with lot's of curves.

I bought my FZ6 about 2 months ago, been about 12 years before that since I sold my last bike. Rode on and off for several years before that, with a Honda CB350 being my only transportation for about a year and a half. A couple years after I sold that I bought a Kawasaki 550, but I had a car then as well so I only rode when it was nice out.

Not too experienced with twisties as of yet, so I'll wait until I get a little more riding under my belt. Hope you guys have a great time!!!

Thanks, I really apprecitate your honesty.

Keep an eye out for a ride I call 'The Apple Run'. It's a shorter run that's good for less experienced riders. However, it does sample most of the best roads along North Ga. It's a great ride, but short enough that we won't be pressed for time to keep such a fast pace.

I will post a group ride for this route something in August.

We just did a ride with 14 FZ6 forum members last weekend. Some rode from NorCal and even Las Vegas. We then met in Anaheim,Ca. and rode the Angeles Nat'l Forest.
Cali rider (John) came up with a great idea. Lead bike and last bike wore bright dayglo color vests. It was easy to look back and see when the tail end was with the group. We had a great time and I can't wait to do it again!

Maybe I could fly out to your spot and rent a bike! :BLAA:

Glad you guys had a good time. The idea about using dayglo for the leader and the person riding six is a good idea. However, a group of 14 wouldn't work in North Ga...too many curves and too many trees to keep that size of a group together. Instead, I split the group up at around 8 riders and elect a second leader for the second group, and so on....

Smaller groups are more fun as it keeps the waiting at turns to a minimum. But that's just my preference.

I don't ride with pirates or squids. I like to ride early, as in before the pirates and squids wake up. The group riding style between sport riders and pirates is VERY different. For example, pirates, in a group, don't usually pass until there is room for everyone to pass. Read this as BORING. My style is....if you can pass, go for it, but when you do pass you must assume that the rider behind you is going to pass as well. So, when you pass don't close the throttle. Instead, stay on it and get over to the far right to give the rider behind room to make the pass as well. The main point here is that sport riders like to pass and then wait at the turns (road change) in order to keep the group together. Pirates like to keep the group together all the time.

Confirmations? Me!

I'll post another message for a roll-call. That will give us an idea of the size of the group. I am also inviting a couple of friends from other boards as well. I'll add them as soon as I have confirmation.

Also, I am very safety conscious. Once I get a confirmation I will be sending each confirmed rider a PM for some emergency info. This will consist of emergency contact name, number, blood type, insurance info (if you have a towing policy). I would like to see everyone carry this type of info in more then one location (ie in the pocket of their jacket and somewhere on their bike). I would also like to have more than one person have all of this info on the cell phones. Privacy is very important here and must be respected.

I've never lost a rider and have only had one injury during a group ride. If it does happen, I'm not going to be standing on the side of the road scratching my head trying to figure out what to do. The time to figure that out is now, before the ride.

I hope I'm not scaring anyone.

I also believe very strongly about AGTATT ( All the gear all the time ). If you show up to my ride with shorts, a tank top, and flip flops you will be riding alone that day.

I do have some rules, but I promise you will have a blast on my group rides.

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

that ride i went on with the harley guys was pretty much a once a year thing it was a big charity ride so since it was for a good cause...a women fighting cancer...i decided to tag along, and i will be bringing my spot tracker along, in terms of emergency situations i think it is just about the most usefull thing out there, ive never had to use it thankfully but its nice to know its there if i need it.

Understood, nothing wrong with a good charity ride (except, maybe, if you have to ride with pirates).

Ordered a new rear tire today. I WILL be ready for this ride.

Actually, this is going to be more than just a ride. A certain song comes to mind, 'a 3 hour tour...'.

The new tire will be thoroughly scrubbed in before I reach the end of the Cherohala....I'm just say'n.
