Hi all,

I bought a 2007 Fz6 last weekend. First of all, I'll try to set up the situation. It has only 1350 miles on it, and has been sitting in the previous owner's garage for a year and a half. Every morning, thus far, I have been having throttle sticking issues.

Symptoms:
-Throttle Very hard to turn in morning
-Will not snap back properly; slides back very slowly

What I have tried:
-Bought some silicone spray that is safe on plastics, rubber, and metal.
-Applied it on the handlebar after taking off throttle and cleaning both the throttle tube and handlebar.
-Applied more lubricant to the throttle cables. On the handlebars, and we looked down low on the side of the bike and lubricated where the throttle cables connect and pull the metal slider allowing airflow. Note: We did not have to take the air filter housing off for this.

Is there anything else that could be causing this?
After about 5 minutes of loosening it up it will snap back for me, but it is very hard to get that way. Maybe there is something else I can lubricate that I am uncertain of.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Yes, but its not necessarily temperature related. You notice you have two cables. One pulls it open and one pulls it shut. The two cables need to have some slack in them such that they don't don't apply tension to the carburetors throttle plate cam where they connect.

If they both have some slack at rest (idle position), I'd think that someone may have applied a thick oil or grease to the cables and the substance has gelled. You may need to lift the tank and remove the cables from the carb mount. Now you can isolate which cable is sticking although it may be both.

Also look for pinch points where the cable is bound. Check it from the bars to the carb. Anyway, I hate to say this but if its not pinched, liberally apply WD40 (I'm not a WD fan) to the cables working the solvent into the cable. I might suggest you disconnect them at the grip and hold them in the air. Make funnel and tape it to the cable ends and let gravity take the solvent down the length of the cable.

Once free and moving you need some light oil in there. I suggest Mobile 1 Synthetic of 5wt to get things moving. You need to use the funnel again to flush it.

Good luck.

You could undo the jamb nuts, remove the cables and see that the plates snap shut with the TPS attached. They should.

Has this bike ever been down or had repairs to the fairing? Any reason to think the cables are not routed correctly? Thats ver low miles for someone to do PM and make things worse, but we all know what the wrong lube can do. . . . Unwanted friction. . . .

I usually have problems under the throttle rubber grip. Bit of spray there helps.

Otherwise, airbox off, and spray the springs etc along the FI rail.

It's possible the cable has been frayed too, so possibly disconnect cables and run them out as far as you can to see. Just be careful, they bend easily and once bent, fray fast.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies!!! Sorry I didn't get back to you all sooner, just had a busy couple days getting the bike tagged and inspected! So after I posted, I noticed the throttle getting looser by the day. To whomever mentioned the bike getting warm and it loosening up, you are probably spot on. After I ride it for about 5 minutes, the throttle snaps back very intensely. I think everything is good to go now, but thanks again for all the replies. Those may come in very handy in the future. I've put about 45 miles on it so far, but that number will shoot up quickly this weekend!!!
