Bar End Mirror Question

I just picked up a pair of these off ebay. The stock bar ends on my fz6 are about 1/2" in diameter yet the spacers that go into the handlebar that are on the new mirrors are about 5/8". So they are too big and they dont seem to fit in upon initial try. Was going to maybe put a dab of wd-40 on it to see if they would go in. Was curious if this is the norm or maybe the guy sent me the wrong size rubber spacers...............he also sent me a set that are way to skinny as well.

Normaly , when you buy mirrors, you get the spacers to fit all bars, both metric, and Cruiser.....am surprised you did'nt, cause the spacers are like a 20c part....

I would contact the vendor for the right spacers.

Yeah i already have thanks. Just sucks because I had to wait a few weeks as it is since they came from Hong Kong. :disapprove:

You didn't post a pic or link.. can't see what they actually look like. Mine mount directly to my bar ends.. the part that's the same diameter as the bar itself. Did not need to use any spacers which were included with mirrors.

I buy lots od stuff off E-bay, and most of the properly priced E-Bay vendors are based in Hong Kong, and normally, are very reliable. I reckon they will fix you up. It is just a pity that you have to go through the waiting thing, re mail delivery times...have been there, it is frustrating, especially when you dont get what you want, and have to go through the "Struggle" of getting it fixed.

Yeah.. looks like those will require proper spacers

Mine have bolts on top AND bottom of the clamp, which makes the clamp very adjustable.

another thing im worried about is vibration. These mirrors look like they wont absorb any. its just basically a piece of rubber being inserted into the bar in essence unlike the heavy duty stack bar ends. But i guess ill cross that bridge when i get to it. Installing would help first!!!!

Hmm.. great looking mirrors, but definitely not ideal when it comes to mounting. Bar vibes will most definitely increase.
Here's how I think I would try to mount them:
1. Pull out the big blue bushing the mirror is sitting on.
2. Build up the lip on stock bar end (the part that normally sits inside the grip.. this is what I have my mirrors mounted to) with strategically cut duct tape. If cut properly, it should end up being invisible once the mirror is mounted on top of it.
3. Tighten it up and see if the setup is sturdy enough.

Just a thought. Obviously this will require pushing grips inward.. once again this is what I did on mine and it works very well, but keep in mind that it does reduce your leverage to a degree thereby making the steering a bit harder. I got used to it in 1 ride.

thats an interesting idea Eric, thanks. Im just worried i wont be able to spread the mirror arms enough to get the blue bushings out but its worth a shot. damn, i like the blue too. lol.

Understandable concern, but think about it.. they had to get it in there somehow, right? True, blue does look sweet.

actually i was premature in saying that. It came out easily when I tried. I can use the existing grommet in conjunction with the stock bar ends. I just wonder if the bar end is going to go far enough in. It seems like it would but i have to do a test fit of course. But thats where the whole thing you mentioned about pushing the grips inward comes into play i would imagine. It would be a good setup since id be using the stock bar ends of course. Some nice weather would help dammit!

Granted, they aren't cheap, but it was the perfect solution for me to mount my CRG bar end mirrors. They're exactly like the stock bar ends, but have that channel to mount the clamp-on style of mirrors like the ones you're using.

If you check out that link to Rhino's website, on the left you'll see a link towards the bottom for blems/clearance. I found a set that they'd deemed "blemished", but they weren't listed. In that link, it says to give them a call and they'll see if they have any blemished bar ends that they sell at a discount. Regular price: $70. I got mine for $50 shipped. And when I got them, the blemishes were on the inside (under the little slider that attaches to the end). In other words, you couldn't even see it!

I can't remember the guy's name that I talked to, but he was VERY helpful and sent me high-res pics of the bar ends I was purchasing so I could see what they deemed a blemish.

Those are brilliant!! Do they have much weight to them, or are they much lighter than stock?

I know! I was completely taken with them when I a member of my local forum suggested them to me during my conversion. I couldn't believe after all the naked conversion threads on here and all the talk of bar end mirrors, that these had never come up.

As for the weight, I haven't weighed them against the stock bar ends (on a scale, anyway), but the hand scale says they pretty darn close to as heavy as the stockers. I definitely don't get any more vibrations than I did with the stock bar ends. Plus, once you add the mirrors to them, it makes up or even exceeds the weight of the stockers, so you're not losing any vibration dampening, IMO.

I love these darn things. Seriously, it's a great idea! :thumbup:

*edit* I should add that they're made of the same material as the stock bar ends. I'm not sure if that's steel or what, but they aren't light weight aluminum. They've got good heft to them, just like the stock ones. And the end has a replaceable delrin slider (the same material frame sliders are made from). There's an allen screw that attaches the slider to the bar end and under that slider is the hex head so you can tighten them down on the bars. They just screw right in like the stock bar ends.

Awesome. I would absolutely get a set of those if I had known about them when I was setting up my FZ1 bar. I'm happy with it as is, but it would have been nice to not have to slide controls in that's 1/2". Takes more away from *flickability* than one would imagine.

those are def. great bar ends but i didnt want to buy another set. i was able to use the bar end with the new mirror on the throttle side and its tight as hell and perfect fit. However the clutch lever side i will have to build up the material on the stock bar end because the mirror isnt sturdy and moves. Sadly i overtightened the bolt on the mirror that is used to snug up the bar end and part of the mirror arm cracked which really sucks. Its not noticeable and I hope it holds up ok with no issues.

building up on the bar end with some material helped. the left mirror seems pretty damn sturdy but ill know after a test ride later on. here are a few pictures of them mounted. im just so glad i was able to reuse the existing bar ends. im sure it woulda vibrated alot without them.

That looks fantastic! Hopefully they'll hold up well.
