help! bike dies when i change out of neutral

Story:

spent most of today fitting my neew leo vince exhaust (it sounds sexy)

got the bike back together minus the givi rack (i'll figure that one out another time), rolled it out the garage, all geared up and ready to go.

Bike starts in neutral, change into 1st and it dies. I've checked the sidestand switch, and it seems to be working correctly. Don't know how to check the starter relay, but everything seems to be plugged in correctly.

Last time I rode the bike 2 weeks ago (in the dry) it was fine. I did play around with the tail lights (they all seem to work), and I also noticed a frame bolt on the left hand side was loose so I was poking around there.

Anybody got any ideas of what it could be or how to fix it? No errors on the screen.

It is definitely your sidestand switch. I'm not sure if it is NO or NC, but put a voltmeter on it and press it in and out and see if you have a connection or not.

i unplugged the sidestand fuse harness under the tank and tested it, the switch is fine

currently unplugging the battery to see if that helps

Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner where the plunger goes into the switch body. I had the same problem 2 years ago and cleaned my switch using this method. Haven't had a problem since.

seems like it didn't have enough juice, managed to bump start it, but then it died a little further down the road. One more attempt revving the tits off it and it died again on a dark country road with no lights

Managed to get it recovered and home luckily my insurance includes breakdown cover.

hopefully the battery just needs charging and it's nothing to do with the regulator

how old is your battery? maybe you need a new one ...

also check your kill-switch, it may be corroded and causing this problem (happened to me)

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the throttle position sensor (TPS) recall

I think I've posted about this over a few different threads.

I charged the battery and also replaced the rectifier, since then it's been running fine. I did check the original rectifier and it seemed ok, but I'd already taken delivery of a used spare. Checked the tps values and they go from 16-101. Bike felt a bit rough the first day I got it running but now it's fine.

Only thing I might do is balance the throttle sync. As well as the above I checked the cables and checked for a bad earth

Check the clutch safety switch. It located under the actual clutch lever perch on the handlebar, two wire plug...

Make sure its plugged in also.

The clutch switch works, you can hear the circuit activating in the starter relay.

Tbh I think it was just a series of problems which caused my issues

The clutch safety switch in good or faulty condition will still allow the bike to crank over/start unless the bike is in gear. If its faulty, the bike will stall when clicking into gear..

Ok so this isn't fixed, currently broken down again, with error 46 must be the stator or a short somewhere. Can't bump start it a I'm facing up on loose ground

If this is true, I suggest you back track every step you took and double check everything that came apart.

It seems odd to have so many problems after a pipe install. I'd head to the ECM and make certain its connections are clean and tight, undamaged.
