BMW against the trend...

BMW Posts 21% Sales Boost in Q1 2010

BMW continues to buck the trend, releasing sales data that shows the Bavarian company getting a 21% sales boost last quarter when compared to Q1 of 2009. The company made €351 million in sales revenue (also up 21%), which came to €32 million EBIT, up 14.3% from Q1 of last year as well. BMW cites strong sales from the S1000RR, and the newly revised R1200GS/RT as being the reason for the strong sales numbers.

BMW is also boasting that it now has the largest market share in Italy, Great Britain, and Germany. The company also sold 2,094 motorcycles in the United States during the first quarter of 2010, up 7.8% from last year. BMW’s success is only marred by its sales figures from Japan, where the company saw a 13.5% sales decrease, selling only 508 motorcycles.

As the industry sees the motorcycle market rebounding, we can expect to hear better news from many company’s in Q2 of 2010. Perhaps the best news to come from BMW was the company’s increase, albeit a modest one, in unit production, up 3.8% from Q1 2009 . This is clearly a sign that BMW sees some light at the end of the tunnel.

Triumph also saw similar numbers during the recent deficits, boasting the most stable sales numbers across the board. I'm glad to see the market turning around which means more development into newer and better bikes and safety equipment, like that airbag suit you posted.

Actually, this is the one that inspired me. Do the headlight brackets look familiar (inverted on my bike)?

I like the older BMWs like my brothers Only he removed his windscreen of last year. This new one that is presented on this thread would be fun to ride, but not quite my cup of tea yet.

The exhaust would be my epic fail, I would lean back with my hand getting off the bike or something stupid and burn the crap out of it

As far as I know, none of these actually went into production, if you check out the link in the earlier post, you will see that there are actually a couple of different exhaust options.

BMW kicking some serious butt

BMW Motorrad is reporting that worldwide motorcycle sales were up 21% for the first five months of 2010, compared to 2009’s numbers. Sales were up 19.3% for the month of May alone, with 12,139 units sold, making for 45,431 units sold thus far in 2010. The newly revised BMW R1200GS/Adventure models account for 3,705 of the motorcycles sold in May, which is up almost 34% from last year.

While the GS comprises almost a third of BMW’s total sales in May, BMW reported that the F and K series motorcycles also showed strong demand in the month as well. Also making a strong showing is the all new S1000RR superbike, which sold 1,345 units in last month for a total of 5,236 units sold this year so far.

Despite the continued downward trend for motorcycle purchases over 500cc worldwide, BMW has shown some strong numbers. BMW attributes this success to “its broad range of attractive products.” Whoever wrote that statement clearly hasn’t looked a BMW motorcycle in the eye lately, but with a multitude of class leaders in its repatoire, BMW’s sales figures show that good bikes still sell in a bad economy.
