Neutral light out

I got a new koso speedo and got it all working but the neutral light would not work. I tried hooking up the old speedo to check if the problem still persists and it does. I also noticed the bike will only start with the clutch pulled in now.

I think I blew the neutral switch but do any of you think different? Any advice, recommendations are welcome..

Prob is its out even with the stock speedo. I think its the neutral switch on the back side of the engine but unsure. I was stuck for 2 days wondering why the neutral light was not working with the new speedo and low and behold stock aint working either. So I must of wired something wrong and cause some damage to the neutral switch

It would be difficult to blow up the neutral light, but having said that, here are a few things you can check.

The neutral indicator in the stock speedo is powered by the ignition fuse which is hard wired to the positive side of the neutral LED indicator. To complete the circuit, the negative side of the LED passes thru the neutral switch to ground thus completing the circuit. To manually light the LED, there is a light blue wire with white connector under the seat on the right hand side, this is the wire that goes to the neutral switch to ground, and incidently the same wire we tap into for the DG8 gear indicator. If you pop that off and short to ground, that would test to see if your stock speedo still works (ignition on but not running of course). If this works, then you have a neutral switch problem.

If is still does not work, then check to see if your meter lights are illuminated as they are on the same circuit as the neutral indicator. If not, the wire from the fuse to the speedo connector is messed up. You need to trouble shoot that.

If the meter lights are illuminated, then somehow the red/white wire has been separated from the red/yellow wire.

If I wire everything up to the stock speedo it all works besides the neutral light.

I have ran a positive and the LED does light up. I have to pull the clutch in to start now, this has to do with the indicator connected to the back of the engine correct?

The indicator is not part of the clutch switch circuit. The neutral indicator only illuminates when the bike is in neutral. If you have to pull the clutch in to start, that kind of indicates the bike is not in neutral.

It's in neutral but I still have to pull it in to start. (Can roll it freely with clutch out) Which leads me to believe the neutral switch is the problem cause no matter what it wont light up the speedo LED when I'm in neutral. (Have tested and the LED is not "burnt out")

Anything else you can recommend? I might just buy a new neutral switch. Its less then 20 bucks so not a big loss.

Otherwise, to pull in the clutch to start while in neutral kind of points towards the starting circuit cut-off relay. There are some diodes in there and one of them might have cooked. That could happen if you tied the light green wire from the speedo head to the postive.

Bit late but ill try both tomorrow. Did not smell any burning but what should I check to correct your 2nd group of info?

Sorry for re-activating the old thread again.

What if, I mean what if the LEF really burned out? Is it possible to replace this LED by disassembling the dashboard? Mine is 2006 FZ6S.

My friend've been replaced with the whole dashboard and confirmed that the neutral indicator is working fine. So it maybe infer that the circuit and relay is fine, right?
