HELP!!!!! Engine cutting off From 1st

Most bikes have this safety feature built in. I disconnected and hot wired my KLR 250 (both the clutch switch and kickstand switch)as it is known to act up...

The FZ is still there as I hadn't had any problems with it...(Yet)...

You are correct there is a switch there. Just looked it up on the microfishe on Yamaha's website. Part number is 3YX-82917-01-00.

This could be an issue too I suppose. I am assuming this is what allows the motor to turn over once the bike is in gear. Not sure how that would cause your problem though.

Thinking about how that switch works...

It allows power to the starter when the ECU detects the gearbox is not in the Neutral position once the clutch is disengaged (clutch pulled in) Once running the clutch is released and it shouldmt be a problem. Unless that switch is tied to the ECU and is killing signal to the coil packs. Which doesnt make since, because if that was the case then you could turn the bike over with the side stand down but it would never lite.

I still think you have somthing in the chain or stuck in the rear wheel that is binding up the drive line.

Well I inspected the chain and rear wheel. Only thing I found was a small metal wire around one of the links. Wasnt tight enough to be holding anything in place. Im guessing they left it on when I took my baby in for the 520 swap. Anyway ive since cycled through 1st / N / 2nd about 15 times and even took it around the block a few times- No issues. Im guessing the clutch cable became loose. If anyone else has any more ideas feel free to chime in. A VERY GIANT HUGE THANK YOU! For everyone jumping in with thoughts and ideas. I do appreciate it very much.

-yes i can drop it in to 1st but when im letting clutch out to move foward the bike jumps foward and cuts off. I think your right, the bike will cut as soon as you drop in gear. So i think we eliminated that. thanks guys, keep possible problems coming.

Not to complicate the issue, but (intermittently) when it rains and I drop down to first at a red light it will still show my neutral light until I begin to release my clutch... so it may still be the kickstand... Again, not likely, but I wouldnt take it off the table...

I had the same problem with my bike but it wasn't the kickstand.
Left the disc lock on the front rotor it rolled a couple feet and stopped killing the engine. :spank:
If your still having the problem is it able to drive starting from second gear?

no more problems. But that would be a great idea to try. lets hope i never get to try it though.
