FZ1 Pod Light mod

Using the Autozone parts from oldfast007 (Eric) and ant_mb (Anthony) wiring method, I completed this in short order this evening:

Looks great! Some one was looking for a way to do that a while back and I designed and posted a schematic for that same sequence.

Very cool. I want to do that on mine. Just have to get aset of pod lights.

This is cheap and easy!

I did it a little different, went to auto zone bought 2 License side marker sockets from Conduct-Tite Part# 85814 $3.99 each, and (2) jamstrait hyper-bright 4 led 194A bulbs(amber), $10.49 for a two pack... $18.47 Total. Soldered and taped the taps to the harness.

This is exactly what I bought. Worked very well and was super easy to do.

What you do is attach the two socket wires to the stock signal's running HOT and signal HOT. When the stock signal blinks, the running light HOT is switched off and the signal HOT on. When the stock signal is just a running light, the signal HOT acts as a ground for the 194 pod light. Thus, when the stock light is a running light, so is the LED pod, but when the stock signal is a blinker, it alternates the pod wires between on and off.

On the FZ1, the wires were as follows:

Stock left signal has three wires, black (left alone), blue (splice in the black from the 194 socket) and brown (splice in the 194 brown)

Stock right signal has three wires, black (left alone), blue (splice in the black from the 194 socket) and green (splice in the 194 brown)

I think the FZ6 has the same colors.

I did a similar thing to my 6 but we dont have the running lights in the indicators so I just spliced straight into the existing wires.

Very cool Mick! So, Oz does not require running lights in the front, eh? Is there a law saying you cannot have them?

We do need to have running lights but they need to be white.The pods are our running lights so when I did the mod it left me with none.
I bought some led strips and put them in the gills of the fairing and wired them to the old pod light wires .

That's a good mod. I'm in the process of doing something similar, but I want the pod lights to be pulsating running lights. I've always wondered if flashing headlights are good for visibility, seems like lots of mixed feelings on that from riders. But a few weeks back, I saw a Goldwing with always-on headlights and pulsating running lights. It was attention getting without the attendant confusion of "what is he trying to signal by flashing his headlights". So I'm going to install white LEDs in the pod, and figure out a way to make them either run solid or pulsate. I'll need to get some sort of timed relay, or maybe make use of the existing flasher circuit. Anyone done this?

ant_mb has done something along those lines. I think you can get SDC-01013 - Signal Dynamics - Back Off Diamond Star Headlight Modulator w/Remote Switch and hook up only the pod lights? Great idea! This modulator is for bikes and has the light sensor so you are not modulating at night which is illegal.

This modulator is for bikes and has the light sensor so you are not modulating at night which is illegal.

I think ant_mb's thing (http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-mods/7909-spot-mod.html) was to make his pod light be both constant running lights and alternate opposite the turn signal when those are on. I'm trying to set mine up as independent of the turn signal, just modulated. The headlight modulator you mentioned seems like it might work, although my best lead from another thread pointed to customled.com which is specifically for modulating LEDs.
