Visor cleaning whilst on the move

Hi guys n Girls,
I was riding back from London the other night and it was raining (no suprise there). Unfortunately it wasn't your standard fall down from the sky in blobs kinda rain. It was a more swirly pissy kind of rain. It was so light and persistant I couldn't get a decent amount on my visor to run off. We also have a lot of salt on the roads at the moment so the spray from cars and trucks just added to the problem.
I started using my glove to wipe it. After about 6 wipes it was all smeared. I stopped at a garage and got some water and a cloth and cleaned it.
I have read before that some riders rub a light covering of soap into the visor to break the surface tension of the water. What a load of Fecking rubbish that was. After about 10 minutes I couldn't see ****. I had to pull over again and wash the visor.
What do you guys do to maintain visibility whilst on the move. I have seen the Ilse of man fog post by admin. Yesterday I stuffed a wet cloth inside the fairing and used this to wipe the visor. It was ok if a bit impractacle.

they sell riding gloves with built in squeegees or you can buy seperate ones that attaches on the gloves by the thumbs. off course there are liquid "stuff" that people apply on their car windshields that makes the rain water bead so they run off easily. I believe it's called Rain X here in the U.S., I used it on my car during college 'cause I couldn't afford to buy a new wiper motor then. Ran for 6 months without wipers but it worked great. Just a thought.

Carry a sock and a small spray bottle of Plexus. The small bottles are the eize of a cigarette lighter and even have a handy clip on them so you can store them easily. Since it's a spray, you can spray your visor while riding. Then wipe off with the sock.

Oh yeah, spray and clean one half of the visor at a time.

Following a recommendation, I tried "white can" Pledge furniture polish (not the yellow can) on my visor (inside and out) and it does seem to keep the moisture "moving" on the visor, no matter how light it is, plus it does seem to reduce fogging. Just apply it and then polish the visor with a clean, cotton cloth. It's worth a try. I also use white can Pledge to clean my bike's windshield which also prevents scratches, and also use it to clean the entire bike. Wonderful stuff.

my summer gloves has soft leather cloth (a bit like shammy leather) on two fingers, which help very well to clear the visor, but my winter ones have nothing. Last Thursday it rained that constant fine rain here, the worst thing was I rode a bit with my visor open to start off with, but when I closed it the rain was already on the inside (as on the outside). I also had trouble clearing my visor, on the inside and out . Luckily I had a pack of tissues with me so I stopped part way to my work to clean the inside of my visor.

this happens to me a lot to. waht i do if im riding and it fogs up i just crack the visor and if it gets too bad i just open it. but if you leave it open at a stop light or something once you start moving it goes away, for my helmet anyways.

With my pinlock I don't have a problem with steaming up, but I quite often ride in the slower areas with my visor up as I like the fresh air, so I don't really have an excuse .

I use a combo of rain-x and my riding gloves that have a squeegee built into the left index finger so i can wipe clear. I am lost when i wear my winter gloves since they have no squeegee.

Where do the add on ones come from?

I also wear glasses, so if I open the visor to much it just screws up those lenses to.

Ok...let's see. It says "Formule anti-poussiere" and "Attire et enleve plus de poussiere...."...oh, hang on a minute. Wrong side of the can....
It doesn't identify the actual place of manufacture, but it says that it's manufactured by SC Johnson & Son. I'd guess it's made in the US. The "white can" Pledge is the Anti-Dust Formula.

For my Camaro, I just wax the window and when I use the quick detail spray I just go on to the windows as well and it works just as well if not better than RainX. If you have some car wax you may want to try that as well.

Oh and I have been stuck in what I call, "Piss Ant" rain and the easiest way to clear my sheild is to one side at a time by turning my head to the right for a second, and all the wind will clear the right side of the screen, then turn to the left for a sec to clear the left. Something about how the wind breaks around my bike and helment, it works like a charm, lol. Just make sure you are in a clear area where you can look out of the corner of your eye for a moment...

For my Camaro, I just wax the window and when I use the quick detail spray I just go on to the windows as well and it works just as well if not better than RainX. If you have some car wax you may want to try that as well.

I normally turn my head to clear the water, unfortunately it was not raining hard enough. I even tried at 80mph. Its was crappy sticky rain lol.

The traffic coming out of London was thick as fog. I couldn't ride safely in it over 60mph. I did hit 80mph but it still wouldn't budge.

I had the same problem as Neil. Rode into London last Friday. Was p!ssing down for a while then just horrible drizzle and mist. If I leave the visor shut it mists up my glasses. Open it a crack and the rain comes down the inside of the visor and onto my specs. Had to stop twice to clean up visor/specs. PITA. Over 80 is the only way, if that is possible, but going into London with all the stop/start, oops sh*t, ohmygoda50mlongbendybus, bloody taxi, hmm should I try and beat the courier to that gap, ahh suicidal cyclist, ooff pothole, does that speed camera looks forwards or back?, f**k off BMW driver, oops sorry about the wing mirror shenanigins going on it's impossible (to do 80). Took me 1.5 hours to do a 45 minute journey.

I have the Aerostitch elkskin guantlets with the built in squeege on the left thumb. It is exactly what works. All the different forms of rain described in the "rain god's diary" covered by Douglas Adams are effectively dealt with by the thumb squeege. Even a softly hard blattering.
