On the bike no.
In my truck yes, and it was stupid, and I am ashamed of it. I wish I had not done it, and think it was one of the stupidest, most irresponsible, crapheaded, things I have ever done. It was a 79 stepside long bed Chevy with a hell of a engine I built. Fast was not the issue, handling sucked and the brakes sucked so I put others lives at risk. It was wrong, and I would not do it again no matter what. It was a very long time ago.

I haven't and wouldn't but I met two people with a similar claim:

These guys were talking about a 30 mile strip of I-88 coming out of Chicago. I have seen cars going pretty fast (maybe 100 mph) but have never seen a bike going that fast. Then again, I don't tend to be out at the times quoted. Both of these guys claim that if you speed past a cop and are going fast enough, they don't bother coming after you.
I think that both of these guys are nuts.

I ran from the cops and got away, about 12 years ago. I was young & stupid then. I had a Katana 600, I was riding up the main drag in a town I used to live in. it is a four lane road with a center turn lane. I was just crusing up the street, a cop car was heading the other way and just as we were about to pass he lit up his lights and siren and cut into the turn lane. I was thinking who's he going after, then I glanced down at my speedo and realized I was doing almost 80 in a 45. as he started to make a U-turn, I just decided to go for it and downshifted and jumped on it. I cut through a pack of cars then made a right on the first side street and opened it up. the street I went up has numerous places to cut off. as I passed the first intersection, I could see the cop just making the turn onto the street. I took it to where a canyon intersects one way takes you to the freeway the other way takes you into a series of canyon rds. and residential neighborhoods. I made a right heading towards the freeway and opened it up again. at the time the cop was so far behind me he was out of visual sight. I jumped on the freeway and took it to the other side of town then got off and side streeted it back to my house. I put the bike away threw a cover on it and didn't ride it for about 2 weeks.
I know how crazy that was, I wouldn't do it now days(got to much to lose)
if I get caught speeding now, I'll take my ticket like a good boy.:thumbup:

i was at a stoplight with four of my buddies on their bikes, just sitting there revving our stuff. the light turns green and everyone just starts flying with the loud noise of engines and a cop that had pulled someone over ran out in front of us. we all split up different ways. but yea ive seen it, the cops wont bother if your going that fast. they know they cant keep up.

yes they are nuts.
I would never run and it's not because I have a ninja 250 lol......it's just plain stupid.
My mom was a cop for 10 years and when I went on a ride-a-long with her, the cops began a pursuit with a guy on a motorcycle and they called it off, shortly after, because it was too dangerous and yes, they can't keep up......basically it's a waste of time. So, I know some departments do that.

It was a cool dark summers evening, the type that when you take a breath in you can taste sweet scents. It was a great summer to be alive.
I was 15 and we were all staying at my friends house. Now big brother of friend (who was a complete nutter) had a Kawasaki 125 dirtbike. No lights no registration plate. Well that summer I learnt how to make a bike go and stop (you notice I dont say ride). It was about 03.00am and we were all around a small parade of shops in a car park on this 125 (I forgot to mention) nutter brother did not know we had the bike. As it was a dirt bike it made a bit of noise. We we so young & dumb it never occured to us it would wake the neighbours. The Police were called and they arrived when it was my go. As they came into the car park I thought we were in the ****. I was going to stop (as it was they way I was brung up) but terrified younger brother (of the nutter) said just go. Now that was all well and good. I was 15 had no liscence or helmet. Where was I meant to go? So I took off like lightning, well more like a kangaroo, it was only about my 5th go so pulling away wasnt my strong point. I went down the road and the police followed. The lights were on and everything. I was really bricking it. Then lady luck looked down on me in the form of an alley way. In the UK most pedestrian alleys have a concerete ballard stuck in the middle of the path. So I shot up on the pavement and into the alley. The police couldn't follow. Home and dry, not quite. I then spent the remainder of the night over the park on my own with a bike that didn't belong to me lol. I managed to take the bike back in the morning without incident. What can I say, unlike Steve legally I was a minor lol. would I do it again, as long as there is no way of tracing me to the bike, hell yes.

Yup, about 38 years ago and I was in my own tract of homes. Blew right by the cop on my dirt bike while coming back from a big field. Down a bit farther on the street was a sidewalk that went between houses and it had a big yellow poll so cages could do what I did. Hung a left on the sidewalk and crossed over to my street. Our house was two doors down and I got into the garage before he ever had a chance. That was my one and only run.

That and these kids here ran the other day, and hit a deputy and killed him. Its just not fair or right.

ummmm..... I knew this guy
and ummmm.... well the story goes like this:
RIding the Blue Ridge Parkway..... about 8 of us ahem.. I mean them
doing about about 65 in a 45 cruising right along... about 1.5 miles from the North Carolina border in Virginia there sits a Police officer in a Blazer (or Bronco) facing the "riders" with radar..... YIKES!!!
Decision time... we all just rolled it on and hightailed it for the sate line. The officers lights did not come into view until about a quarter mile from the line. Safely accross....and about 10 miles down the parkway all of the bikes pulled into a lil pull off and stories were swapped about reactions to the "chase"
a fun time was had by all .... and no repercussions:rockon:

I was driving on TX969 from Austin to Bastrop in a Honda Insight (underpowered hybrid car). I was doing 90 and had just passed a group of three cars. I came around the corner and there's a cop coming the other way. I looked in my rearview mirror and he lit up and signaled for a U-turn. But he had to let three cars pass first.
So I gassed it for all it's worth and bolted. I knew there was a side road 1/2 mile down the road, so I took it and kept hauling *** until I was around another turn and out of sight of the intersection. That was the last I saw of the cop and I wound up driving to Elgin instead of Bastrop in order to prevent a second meeting with the officer. After I was out of sight, I went back to driving legal speeds so that in case he did catch me I could claim that I didn't know he was after me and that I had simply been driving to Elgin. Thus handily avoiding the "evading arrest" charge.
I was told once and have had it confirmed by a cop I spoke to. If you can give the cops the slip in the first ten seconds, you have a chance of getting away. If you cannot do that, just pull over because there's no hope of escaping.
On the other hand, I got busted on Highway 71, again coming in to Bastrop. I was doing 110 on the BMW and several people whom I had passed had called 911 about me. Cop lights up behind me, I surrendered. Before he was even directly behind me I was on the shoulder with my hazards on going 10mph. I got off with a warning. Cops don't enjoy chasing you, and if you pull over right away, you're making their job easier and also demonstrating that while you are speeding, you're also very alert.
A little respect also goes a long way with these folks. They get treated like crap on a regular basis by the people who pay their paychecks. If you're the exception to that rule, they'll often make an exception for you.

Weren't they just driving fast and lost it while hitting a cop that wasn't actually chasing them? I read something about this just the other day right?

This would depend on a lot of things Fred but it's true for about 60 seconds under most scenarios. If the cop doesn't get a plate number (big plus) you have won the first criteria. If the cop has no other back up in the vicinity and car to car radio doesn't get the message within the first 15 to 20 seconds you have just won the second criteria which is time and distance providing the cop was stopped when he picked you up. If the call is made to dispatch other units in the trunk system will be listening to the call and subsequently call in a response if they are on the move. This is where scanners used to be nice but they don't work anymore as in many cases the cops have gone to narrow band in a trunking network and those scanners are not cheap at all. So, within that first 60 seconds you will need as many direction changes as possible giving you the maximum evasion distance possible. I have seen but one bike actually beat the cops and the chopper and this was in California where a sportbike (black) kept them out there for quite a while. He eventually stopped in a parking garage and the cops picked him up at his crib later. It can be done but if you do get hooked up, the costs would be in the thousands not to mention any jail time, the loss of the bike, your license and lord knows what else financially. Like Steve said, it ain't worth it.

The deputy that got killed recently was just sitting there waiting for them to pass so he could attempt to pull them over and they deliberatly t-boned the officer and his kanine. As for stories with the cops and bikes. I too have one. Will post it as I posted it on the local rider's forum.
That would be me that pulled over. So I get out on the highway and try to catch up with the pack. Wind it up to 140 indicated and succeed in catching the front people. Slow back down and notice that the scenery is blinking in a pattern that is timed rather than just headlights bouncing. Look in the rear view and see blue. So I put on the blinker and pul over, shut the bike off and start fishing for lic, reg, and ins. Cop walks up and asks what towing company I would like. I finally get my helmet off and tell him that prefferably none. Then he asks, "Do you know where those people in that motorcycle gang (BWAHAHAHAH, gang?!?!?) that left out of here in a hurry are going?" " I didn't know but I was going home to g-town" "Do you know how fast you got it up to?" "Not really. *shrug*" "How about 105? That sound about right?" "Yeah, I was speeding can't deny that." "Do you know any of the names of ?" "I only know first names of some and that's about it." "So what are we going to do about this? *shakes my info*" "I'd prefer not to go to jail but I'll the speeding ticket because we both know I was doing that." "Where do you work?" "AT&O in g-town, it's a welding shop for Toyota." "Have you ever been arested before?" "just once in Texas a long time ago for an unpaid speeding ticket that I know I paid but lost the receipt for." He then gets in his car and zips of while I put things back where they go and refolding paper. Put the helmet and gloves back on and head off... Me being the paranoid *** I am, I thought he was going to follow me to g-town so I didn't even pull off to look or call for you guys. Pulling over is an old habit from Texas as it was made apparent to me after the first time that I didn't notice the cop behind me for a mile or so that had I not noticed him when I did that he was authorized to use his vehicle to take my *** out. Ah yes, growing up in a relatively small area where unless you are in on the good-ole boy system, the cops will freaking own your *** if they don't like you. They had a picture of my car on their dash the night I got arrested. Apparently I was to be harassed if seen doing anything. But that's the long and short of it all. The trip from Richmond to g-town blows at only 80.

I'm a big pansy, i would run if i knew i would get away but wouldn't because if i didn't i would not want to face the sh** storm
That is so true, I have been let of on numerous occasions by being polite and humble.
Nice story Khyren, did any of your buddies get a summons?

my little town is notorious for the speeding tickets. its 25 for really no reason, it goes on for about 3 miles on the little main road. it realy should be 35 no joke. so they issue at least 3 a day from ll the through traffic. i got one for 9 over actually. one day i seen him pull out behind me with his lights on. i was going 45 on the bike (didnt realise it). so i was a good 1/4 mile away when he pulled out, no one else around. i downed to 1st and hauled ***. went for a while before i stopped. i lost him within 10 seconds. i wouldnt normally do it but i know the guy is an *** and never gives a warning....ever. plus they raise taxes so much here, they need to lay off the crap. theres about 4-5 cops for a town of 300 or so... plus county (a municipality on the semi-outskirts of cincy) its the only thing they have to do.
