Booked in for first service

Booked my baby in for her first service next thursday, dealers service centre where very helpful and able to get me in pretty fast since they warned they need alot of warning because they are pretty busy. Heres to hoping the service stays at this high level

Any advice for first service?

Try not to be too nervous or smoke too many cigarettes.....I'm sure it'll be OK...lol.

Seriously though, first service is a check over and retensioning of cables, and bolt with an oil change.

Take your bike in spotless. This'll give you an idea of how proud they are of their work when you get it back:thumbup:.

Thanks I hadn't even thought of that, it would probably have helped if I hadn't already dropped it (no damage thanks to oggy nobs), but I'll definately make sure its spotless when I take it in now.

I know this is not true, but I thought I should play the game and take it there for the first. I just ddint expect ti to be SO much!!!!

Ouch, that kind of price range is what I'm hoping it won't be over.

I'm taking it to the Team Moto Yamaha at Blacktown.

I'll be very happy if its at about the $150-$200 mark, but I am not holding my breath

I paid $215 not that long ago.

$50.00 US.. did the first oil change with Mobil 1, chain adjustment (very easy) cable lube, all done by myself with research on here and from the owners manual. Yamaha's warranty does not stipulate dealer service is required just recommended.

Since its brand new and the mechanic is a friend of my Dad's I'm going to see how they go, if its too exp I will just have to avoid them in future, alot of stuff I'm happy doing myself, like oil changes, chain maintenance, etc
I plan on this being a -very- long term bike, so I want to make sure I don't do anything to stuff that up

Mate for your sake i hope they are nothing like Team H o m o i mean Team Moto up here in QLD coz they are the most expensive dealers for servicing....Quoted me $632 for a major service :spank:.......

The nearest Yamaha dealer isn't bad, not overpriced, but also not cheap, but I didn't buy the bike from them, and they would probably be -very- unimpressed if I turned up with it lol

Well I took the bike in, the morning seemed fine so I chucked the waterproof pants in the missus's car on the way there and the way back since it didn't look like I would need them.
Took about 2 hours for the service, came to just over $200 (mates rate)
I checked and they put Motul 7100 in.
I asked them about fixing up my brake lever, which they attempted to do, but I don't think the young guy I left the bike with passed on my message about going one 'tooth' down on the brake lever being too far, and asking about the bolt that seems to go into the master cyclinder being tightened (if possible) to get a more midway brake lever height.
I got it back and it was down one tooth (it seems at least), which is too far down to be comfortable for easy braking, while the tooth it was on meant I had to contort my leg and foot upwards when i wanted to take pressure off, while keeping a foot ready to apply it as needed (ie hill takeoffs).
They also changed the clutch which now only really engages when its almost all the way out, which isn't too comfortable for taking off, especially since the lever is larger and further out than I'd like, but probably has some other advantage.

I'll fix up the clutch tomorrow when its not raining, and will have to see about that brake lever, its really irritating.
All in all it went well, and I had to rush home to continue digging trenches in the yard for the new sewage system going in.
In POURED on me 1 minute from home, and I got totally soaked, but it was still a good morning.

well it sounds like you did well, $200 including Motul 7100....there's $70 in oil right there.....

I have to admit I thought it was good value, I've had services with less done costing almost double, I think the problem often is the hours used.
I know it only takes me a very short while to change the oil, but sometimes places seem to charge you an hours work for each item, despite the fact you could do it at home in 15-20 minutes.
I guess its a hard one to make a statement on though, because if I found a really good mechanic and he was having a quiet period I wouldn't mind him charging an extra hour or two to keep the business going depending how much i was spending (on my bill at least, can't speak for everyone) but its irritating when the work doesn't really seem to match the hours shown.

They also told me that staintune make an exhaust for the FZ6! I've heard previously they don't and wondered if it was true.

i enquired here in newy about staintune, the reply was NO exhaust for the FZ!!
i assumed it was true as the bikeshop i spoke to are staintune distributers who would've pushed for the sale.

I've heard that -everywhere- else I have been, so I was scratching my head, I was also in a hurry but tried to ask them about what brands they normally would sell, and anything in particular for the FZ6, but the guy kept calling it a SZ6 (I swear, not sure if he was just saying it funny tho) and couldn't find a single brand with a exhaust to fit in the 5 mins I waited, so I said I'd drop back with more time on my hands.

I'll be interested to hear if they do produce them, maybe as one offs.
I'll check next visit and get them to give me a 100% answer about the staintune and let you all know!

I enquired on Staintunes once directly to them and they told me they were a discontinued line but I could probably find one in stock if I tried somewhere. That was 2 years ago, shortly after I found my microns on ebay so never followed it up.

I believe they will engineer a one-off if you are willing to pay.
