eHarmony? LavaLife? others?

Did the same thing.. It really told me I was to picky... The only thing I wanted was a athletic, non-smoker, non-alcoholic, with a stable job lol.. Thats hard to come by in America though :(

I'm glad to read this. At the end of the personality profile thingy, eharmony just came back at me with a, "we're sorry, we can't help you..." message. ugh.

I'd recommend okcupid. And, like our mighty admin suggested, it is a numbers game. Just plan ahead and ask a friend to call you at about 15 minutes into the date so that you have a way to bail on the psychos...

eHarmony is pretty useless. the costs are way too high and the format is retarded. anyone have any experience with it?

not tried lava life but might give it a check. anyone with any experience with it?

and for the ney-sayers out there....dont knock it till youve tried it!!

I met my current girlfriend (going on two years now) on Plenty-of-fish... She's a keeper...

I used to go out to bars/clubs/lounges each week and I just go tired of it. I tried eharmony and it did not work out, but I know some people whom it did work for. I heard positive things about okcupid and plentyoffish. I tried those as well and nothing going for me as well, then out of nowhere I ran into a friend from high school that we haven't seen each other in 8 years and now we are talking, can't really force it I guess. Good luck.

I thought said in your other thread that you were going to marry your cousin who looks like a Bollywood actress?

:justkidding::spank::rof:

Personally, I think meeting someone online is an excellent way of finding a romantic companion. I met my wife via an online personal ad she posted....then I went home and asked her why she was posting personal ads when she's married to me...then she asked me why I was reading them...and that's when the fight started.

;)

(I just managed two cross-thread reference in a single post! :cheer:)

Seriously, met her about 10 years ago via personals (AOL or Yahoo!, don't recall). I don't think there were as many services like you list back then.

The benefit though is that if someone signs up or takes out an ad, you know they're in the market, and what they're looking for in a companion and a relationship. And if someone is willing to fork over some cash, they're more likely to be serious. Meeting people at random in a bar, activity group for a hobby, etc. exposes you to fewer individuals, only a portion of which may be single and actively looking, and only a smaller portion of those will be interested in anyone resembling a white gorilla.

Just be safe, make HER feel safe, and take it easy...and have fun with it! I take it from your other posts you're looking for a bride...start with something a little less serious in mind, like maybe a nice girl who is into jello wrestling or something. It will take a little pressure off things....

You think finding a girl is tough? Try being a girl! Anyway, I have met less wackos on plentyoffish.com than any other dating website and it's free. Still waiting for Mr Almost Right (hey no one is perfect!).

On Cupid I put "must have your own transportation" right in my profile before I gave up on it altogether. Yes, it seems to be asking to much to find someone who is positive, motivated, employed, financially responsible, intelligent and rides a motorcycle. :(

The eharmony process sucks - at leat I didn't like it. Never tried Lava. Have met many fine women on match.com and plentyof fish. The women on plentyof fish are easy, lol.

I say we keep this thread going and start putting personal profiles along with a photo! :rof:

I meet my soon to be fiance at college, only to find out that we went to the same elementary school and high school but never knew each other then lol.

go to the pub, have a couple of beers, and start talking to girls....cheaper, and you get to see what they look like straight off the bat!

I agree, get two or three martinis in them and you are good to go!

well go the library....and talk to girls there.....or join a book club!

This is why I picked up reading. Its a VERY good place to meet girls. Chances are she will be a good one if shes in a bookstore not a pub.

Go to Borders, Barnes and Noble, or the strip club. Your bound to find something at one of em

I'm that guy but you forgot the "available" part. ;)

Mr. Right is out there. Sometimes people look to hard. Often a great match just *happens* when you least expect it. If you look too hard, you look right through the best of them.

good advice to not be too pressurized. I'm really not. I'm looking for a solid long term relationship that much is for sure. beyond that I dont know.

I used to take things as they came and not really worry too much about finding someone really worthwhile but as time has gone on I'm starting to question my laid back approach. Just trying to get more proactive is all.

Thanks for feedback tho ladies and gents.

Much obliged.

Oh yeah - AVAILABLE AND STRAIGHT! Sigh. I really haven't been looking too hard which may be the problem. I date for about a month or two then get sick of it and hang it up for a while again.

As far as bookstores go........there are lots of weirdos there too and it really is annoying to be trying to pick out a good motorcycle magazine while some guy is checking out your........ah..........finer parts! It also makes a woman feel uncomfortable - kind of like a stalker. I have tried getting involved in church, motorcycle clubs, ballroom dancing, and going out with friends. I do these things because not only do I enjoy them but the bigger your network of friends the more people you will meet.

I appreciate the support but I'm tired of hearing that "often a great match just happens when you least expect it" . If I hear that again Zelda and I may just drive off a bridge.

So, to you single guys, I'm hearing your pain and just know that it doesn't matter whether you are male or female, young or uhhhh......young at heart, we all have the same challenges. Good Luck!
