Matris M3 Steering Dampener

Matris fit and finish is excellent.

Here's the kit assembled.

Here are the additional parts needed to fit the dampner to MY07+. Basically, 04-06 handlebar mounts, 2 bolts for the left (right side is provided in the Matris kit) and optional plastic caps for bolts.

I am relatively new to streetbikes, so I have no idea what a steering dampner does? Can you give a brief explanation, and example of a situation where it would be helpful?

Exactly the same set up as the Ohlins....if it works just as great, you will be very happy.

They have been running that $260 deal for too long since the m4 came out. Do you do track days to justify needing one?

Is the track really the only place these would be a benifit? I wonder do they help in situations like a downhill sweeping turn on a bumpy road. I know improved suspention would help but I wonder if the dampener also aids in this sort of thing?

Update us! How is the ride with the new dampner :D?

Still playing with it. Tires need to be replaced, so I haven't really pushed it. I raised the front forks 10mm, which gave quicker turn in, the dampener seems to smooth out the steering inputs. So far all is good. I recently put on FZ1 bars and really like it. Here are a couple of photos.

I actually just ordered my FZ1 handlebar from the dealer today! $39, too. Man, I can't wait.

I think I am going to mod it slightly, though. It seems to be a bit wider than the stock FZ6 bar, so I'm thinking about measuring and cutting the FZ1 bar to the same width. I've got a friend that can rethread the ends of the bar to accept the stock bar ends after cutting it, so that won't be a problem.

I know some nice spots that I often ride that I feel I would benefit from a damper. In fact a large number of sport bikes are equipped with them for the street.....I think the damper would be very beneficial for many of us depending on riding styles.

Looks great Noodle!

Looks great n00dle!

Yeah! I'm getting one!

They are wider. When I get around to getting mine, I am actually thinking of using that extra length and reshaping the bars with a tubing bender to bring them closer to me and turn them out a bit so my wrists are a little straighter.

Keep in mind the bar has thread inserts welded in place.

Here are some pics that may be of interest.
FZ6 bar with FZ1 bar on top, note on the right a small black mark to drill hole for dowel. It's perfectly asymmetrical from the opposite side. Also note the dimples on each side of the bars, which are the welds for the thread inserts to the bar ends.

Hole drilled.

Dowel that the hole is for.

Right side clearance is really close. Bar angle has to be positioned perfectly, otherwise the throttle control housing will hit the tank.

noodle, you have no idea how helpful those pictures are! Thank you so much for posting them!

After seeing what the threaded inserts look like, I'm rethinking cutting the bars down now. I'll likely just leave them the stock length, as it looks like with the inserts and the dimple where the weld is, it would just be too much trouble.

Also, that second picture, with both bars laying side-by-side and showing the mark for where you drilled the bar to accept the dowel really explains things. In another FZ1 bar install thread, someone said exactly what you did, that they drilled the hole asymmetrical to the one on the other side, but that didn't really explain it as they didn't include pictures. This makes it perfectly clear! Thank you again!

The only other question I have is this...do you remember what size hole you drilled? I'd like to only have to drill a small pilot hole and then drill the actual hole in one attempt.

Thanks again!
