Nothing bad, though, I promise. Poor guy got suckered into a project about Harley enthusiasts and brand loyalty, and he refuses to accept that Harley riders encompass the broad range of riders out there, while she is set on only studying Harley owners. Can you tell she has a Harley? Haha!

Yes. From my experience in my area, sportbike enthusiats will ride with anyone, anytime, no matter what kind of bike you have. We all wear different clothes, have a wide variety of machines, engine configurations, colors, ethnicities, etc. etc. where a very large majority of harley riders, in my area, seem to only ride by themselves, or with others that have very similar if not the same bikes and other preferences. When waved at by a group of sportbikes/sport tourers, the harley rider or riders pretend that they don't even see them, and refuse to wave back.

Loud pipes, big heavy chunks of metal, skinny tires, and that clunking sound you hear whenever they pull in the clutch and klomp it into the next gear.

Ancient technology engine, frame and suspension. Low HP to weight ratio, noisy, not very reliable.

I know that if I ever breakdown on my bike another biker will come to my aid (even if he is in his car). Best of all regardless of my abilities, I have felt the same feeling of power and exhilaration riding my bike as some of my biking hero's.

Harley Riders think they are too cool for school. They usually don't wave back, don't acknowledge a sportbiker, and generally have a crappy demeanor. That is NOT true of all of them; however, I know many ultra COOL Harley Riders.
Sportbikers also go two ways...some just want to stunt and look cool and be completely unsafe while others wear full gear, know how to ride and are constantly looking for better ways and techniques to improve their riding and safety.

Just as a side note:

My brother does not ride a motorcycle, and his questions are asking more about the rider than the bike itself. While all of your comments are taken seriously, it would help him immensely if "tech talk" could be kept to a minimum (I have my own school work to work on, without translating for him!), and the questions could be answered as much as possible regarding the people riding the bikes, not the bikes mechanical plusses or minuses (unless it has to do with the people, of course).

I feel HD enthusiasts are somehow part of their own clique, I don't feel any connection to them, they're a different breed of biker... glory bikers, I see them cleaning and polishing their bikes more than I do riding them!

Both except the multiple-day trips are always with others

Full-face helmet, riding gloves, riding boots, riding jacket and riding pants on longer trips. I skip the riding pants when I commute/run errands.

Yes, it's an activity that you don't fully appreciate until you do it and as such is a shared interest with others who also ride.

Mostly everything but tending toward rock/blues

Not necessarily - I think there's a difference between "bikers" and "riders". Bikers are about the image and lifestyle of owning a motorcycle and not abbout the actual riding itself - riding to be seen. Riders are about the ride - best roads, best technique, best equipment for the job, etc. There seems to be "bikers" and "riders" who own both kinds of machines, but I think there's a higher percentage of Harler owners who fit the "biker" description because the biker lifestyle is closely tied to that brand.

half-helmets and no safety equipment, grouped riders

3. How often do you ride your motorcycle? As much as I can during the snow-free season; approximately from April - November.

5. What do you most enjoy about riding your motorcycle? The sheer joy of riding.

7. What type of clothing/protection do you wear when you ride? In the dry: Dainese two piece leather suit, Dainese boots, back protector, leather gloves, Arai full face helmet. In the wet: Same as above only textile cordura jacket and pants instead of leathers.

8. Do you feel that you have a connection with other motorcycle enthusiasts? Explain. Yeah, I feel that I'm a part of a community where everyone shares a love for riding and the beauty of motorcycles.

11. Is there a difference between Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and sport bike enthusiasts? Explain. In my opinion yes, but there are of course exceptions. In general I feel that HD riders are less friendly and more narrow minded than riders of other types of motorcycles.
