handle bar

Hey I want to lower my handle bar are there any past threads or any information how to do it and do I need to adjust my cables I see just four bolts holding it anything special I should be aware of thanks

I did rotate the stock bars to their lowest position that still allows the steering lock to work and there wasn't much involved.

1. Loosen the four bolts until the bar slides with a little bit of effort
2. Adjust to a position that I liked
3. Checked to make sure bar ends didn't hit tank
4. Tighten four bolts,
5. Adjust clutch and brake levers to a comfortable position.

I haven't replaced my bars, so I'm not sure what our throttle tube looks like or how its connected; someone with more experience will have to chime in on the process.

I know that people who wanted even lower bars have switched to the FZ1 bar, or drag bars. There are clip on conversions that people have done, but searching would be the best bet on that.

Yah I did that. It makes the riding position a lot more agressive and makes you feel more in control of the bike. However, I found I was leaning even further forward and this isn't good for riding every day!

js what makes you think i like RED :thumbup: good looking out. As far as comparing the 2, what's the difference in length and riser height, are these bars lower and shorter, and for the bare ends, so the stock ends work or can you get a pair with the new bars.

These bars are a little more forward (less bend than stock) for a more aggressive position, but they are longer than stock, about 2 inches on each side unless you choose to cut them. They will not work with stock bar-ends.

Those suburbans look really nice, but they seem to be for more aggressive riding. I like the rizoma's too, they look like a bit more aggressive but not as much as the suburbans. Have to add those to the wish list.

I also rolled my stocks forward but I felt the control was weaker than than rolled a bit away from the rider and moved them back. Just me I guess.

Hi!

I switched to the fz1-bar this weekend. It gives the bike a more agressive stance, and you a more agressive riding postion. The conversion is quite simple.

The hardest part is loosening the left grip. It's glued, hence you will need some kind of force to get it off the handlebar. I used a very thin knife (not sharp!) and a dash of soap, Patience is a key word here:thumbup:

On the right hand side, you'll need to untighten the bolt that holds the brake line to the reservoir tank. Otherwise it will be misaligned with the new handlebar, and thus it will hit either the tank or the fairing with a full steering lock. Furthermore, you'll obviously have to dismantle the right ignition/starter box in order to get the right grip off. It's connected to the ignition box by the throttle wire (there are two wires, by the way), which you also have to remove. That's something of a plunder if you got big hands and fingers...

Speaking of the right ignition box: It's fastened to the bar with a device with a little tap on it. This tap goes into a little hole that you will have to drill. It's crucial that you get that hole straight, otherwise the whole thing will be misaligned, and you won't be able to steer properly as everything will hit either the tank or the fairing on the faired models.

The whole operation took me roughly two hours total. It's a fun and quite easy mod to do. Just be thorough when you do the measuring:thumbup:

The Suburbans look aggresive but they are not, I find I am leaning forward approx 2'' over the stock bars which is just what I wanted to reduce helmet buffering, there is also a lot of adjustment to be had so the choice would be yours as to how much you need.
Installation was a snap, everything had been pre drilled and tapped, no new brake lines or cables were needed I could not believe how simple they were to fit. Comes with really good comprehensive instructions.

I like those Suburban bars, I'll have to kept them in mind. But they look like they might angle back too sharply, which is a problem I personally have the stock bars. The stock bars just don't sit squared up with my hands, I have to bend my wrist slightly outward to grip them fully, which is a little uncomfortable.

If you still have your stock bars could you post a pic of them next to Suburbans so we can see the grip angle?
