clutch

hey guys new to this forum, I recently test rode a used FZ6n and it was great however I did notice that the clutch was quite jerkey, if you have ever driven a puck clutch in a car thats what it felt like. jumpy and not alot of play is that normal?????

They have a narrow engagement zone, but when you get used to it you can get some B*tchin' launches... I've been riding less than a year, and I will admit it took a couple tries, but I'm able to work it fairly well... It's touchy, but works well.

At first I didn't really like the clutch on the FZ. I rode a 91 Bandit 400 beforehand, and you had to pull the clutch nearly all the way in. After a while and I learned the finesse of the FZ's clutch, I love it. You can really cook thru the gears if you choose to

It is a "Characteristic" of the bike and not a fault. Along with the clunky gearbox, rock hard seat, one headlight on and one off, screen that acts as a wind tunnel, fairing that you can`t get off without scratching. They are all "Characteristics" and not faults.

We LOVE this bike.

You get used to it after about a month of regular riding. The very first day I rode it, I stalled it 100 times because of the stiff narrow clutch, but after a month everything was fine.

Once you start moving, as long as you're smooth with the throttle, you can launch.
Just don't dump the clutch and grab a handleful at the same time

THANK YOU. The inside fairing panels are the worst design flaw ever. It's impossible to not scratch the tank or fairing while taking them off, unless you BEND the fairing.

Seriously? How did they go on then? Maybe get the tank up via bungee first? Geez . . . poor design!

Nope... You have to take the inner pods off the fairing before you can lift the tank... Very stupid design.

Huh . . . weird . . . when I did the Dual Headlight Mod a week ago, I got the tank up without taking those up . . . I kinda shimmied it to one side, and it 'flexed' the pods when I started to raise it, but they had plenty of give, so it slid past (fortunately without scratching) . . . is this a 2009 model thing, you think?

Could be. The tank definately won't come up on the '04-'06 model without removing the inner pods!!!

Can you take a photo of them... sitting on your bike and take a shot of the front of the tank?

If you remove ALL 3 bolts on the tank, you can slide it backwards, then lift it over and rest it on the fairing, reattach the rear bolt, - and vupti, - lifted the tank without removing the fairings .....

+1 Fz6Sa, I've been doing it that way for year. So much simpler and quicker.

The 04-06 and 07-09 fairings are indeed very different, including the inner panels.

IMO removing the pivet bolt on the tank is useless unless i'm removing the tank completely.

Mine is a 06 and I am quite sure you have to take the inner fairing off to get the tank up.

And stumbles you are correct you do need to bend the outer fairing utwards to stop it being scratched.

But thats another characteristic.

That's true. Removing the inner fairing is about the dumbest damn thing, WTF were you thinking Mr. Yamaha???

The clutch I don't even think about anymore, even if I've been off the bike for a week.
