LED tail light...

looks good, i have head a few complain about the daytime visibility though, definately let us know when you get it and let us know what you think!

Heh heh....yes, it should be a simple installation, but be prepared to discover that the Tail Light Development Department at Yamaha have WAAAAAAY too much time on their hands. I've never seen such a complicated tail light setup.
The removal of the OEM tail light is tricky...be very careful not to break off the somewhat delicate "clips" that secure the lens in the tail light frame.

I take it the brand of your LED tail light is Clear Alternatives?
If so, the LED light itself is plenty bright enough. When my son was following me on his bike, he thought my brake light was stuck on, the LED taillight was so bright. When I put on my brake light, he was surprised at how bright it was.
Funny thing about LED's....the further away you are from the source, the brighter the light appears.
 
It is a simple installation, but you have to remove a lot just to remove the tail light housing.. it will probably take 30 minutes total.

I have a similar LED one (if not the same)... day time visibility could be better, but I have no complaints.. super bright at night.
 
Very Interested to see how this works out for you , Not a fan of the red light on the back of mine , if I could get the wolfmans itsy bitsy tiny winnie clear turn signal as well it would set the bike off nicely
 
I have one that is a smoked color. I have not put it on yet but I have looked at how hard it will be to install on mine its really simple there are 2 thumb type screws that hold it in. I am going to wait till it warms up to put mine on and I am waiting on my exhaust I am going to do it all at once. I also am not going to use the load resistors that come with it they are kinda like ceramic. I dont like that idea of ceramic on my bike. I went to indysuperbikes.com and bought a different flasher relay that will work with leds.

I bought one of those flasher relays from motosports.com, and it did not work so well. when it was pluged up, it made my flasher burn solid, not blink. I disconnected it and installed the factory flasher, and it blinks....blinks faster than normal, but at least it blinks. Those resistors might work better. Let me know if your flasher relay works for you. I could have just gotten a bad one.
 
I purchased the same dark smoke light as gilo and it is different than the one you purchased. You are only getting a clear lens and a round led bulb. as you can see in gilos pic, you get the whole light housing(so you dont have to pry the red lens off the stock one), it has built-in amber turn signals, and there is a rectangular led board that runs the width of the lense. Its is plenty bright during the day, even though is a dark lens. Post some pics when you get it on, I will too and we'll compare output

you have know ideal what ur in for with the tail light install:eek: it was one of the bigest pain in the @$$ ive done on my bike! harder themn my exhaust install. i broke some clips doing it, be real careful. then when i finaly got the nightmare done with i looked at it installed on my bike and notice that i hade finger prints on the in-side:eek: it took me months to man up and take it apart to clean it. in fact i did it like two days ageo when i put my new exhaust on. only tip i can give is take the whole back tail section off. good luck youll need it:thumbup:

The one on the picture isn't exactly identical to the ones I bought from my Yammy dealer today, but it's the same thing.
 
I installed an integrated taillight from Clear Alternatives over a year ago. Within the first six months the earth wire detached itself from the PC board and the taillight stopped working. I dissembled the taillight and established that there was movement on the wiring inside the taillight housing that caused the earth wire to break off. I eventually made up a new wiring harness using auto wire and heat shrink sleeving, to replace the flimsy connection between the PC board and the taillight lamp holder. I stripped the insides out of the taillight lamp holder and fed the new harness through the lamp holder socket so that there is no other connections between the PC board and the connector plugs located under the LHS side cover. Filled the lamp holder socket with silicone sealer to waterproof. I then used clear silicone sealer to affix the PC board inside the taillight. I removed the OEM rubber seal from the taillight and filled the groove with clear silicone sealer to form a new watertight seal between the taillight housing and the clear lens.

It’s been six months since doing this mod, without any problems. The taillight is also 100% waterproof.

I Just tried it this morning I have led turn signals already. It works on mine Mine was a plug and play model from Indysuperbikes.com. It was about $40 bucks some of the others I have looked at where universal so you would have to cut and splice wires. Later this week I might put the tail light in then I will have pics.

$40 bucks is quite steep for a relay, I picked up a universal Chinese make for around $10.

it's worked for over a year now, still going strong.

That's cool, I see from the image source code where you got it, but you should let people know where you buy cool stuff. How do you wire it up? Do the turn signal wires plug in to it?
