They tried to steal my FZ6.

This was somebody's way of wishing me Merry Christmas. They tried to steal my bike by lifting it by the handle bars. They twisted and warped the handle bars in the process. Bike is not drivable. I filed a police report and already filed an insurance claim online.

Has anyone dealt with something like this? Is there anything else I should or could do?

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'm intrigued to hear more details about your situation. Where was your bike, when do you think they attempted to steal it, what is your insurance company going to do about all this?
 
Man, I am sorry about your bike..... No one has tried to steal mine but it was clobbered with a whole carton of eggs about a month ago. Some people just can't leave Sh*t alone....:spank:
 
Yeah someone tried to drag mine away a few months back. Dropped it at least once, smashed it up a bit, but the disc brake lock kept it from going to far.

I doubt they bent the handlebars trying to lift it.. they where probably using a crow bar or something trying to break the steering lock. You could lift the bike by the handle bars and let it hang a few hour I don't think it'd warp them. In fact I've done this to put my fork tubes back in. If it's just the handlebars, order a new pair they're only ~$20 and move on. I'd suggest getting an alarm maybe if it's useful (Like you park your bike in front of your window) I got a Talon alarm and it seems to work great. Was about $150. Running a chain between the wheels is also a cheap anti theft method.. it'd take 2 or 3 people in that case and a truck to get away with the bike at least. Man I hate thieves. Glad to hear they didn't get away with her.
 
+1 on wishing them butt herpes. I have an older friend who simply puts a pad lock through his brake disc. $1.50 anti theft device.
 
my buddy had an accord he had all hooked up, he was a guru when it came to out of the ordinary mods, air suspension, shaved door handles with a door popper under the mirror... we had always talked about putting some sort of a shock system on the car like a dogy fence. Not enough to really hurt someone for lawsuit reasons, but to make it painful and annoying to steal.. hehehe. grab the door handle while it was armed and a nice little "tingle" awaits you.. ZAPPP

I live in a condo. We have a covered, gated parking deck with 24 hour security. I always leave my bike on the same spot and that is where it was when they tried to take it. The security guards all know me and my bike. I had a brake lock and the handle bar was locked as well.

I don't know what my insurance company is going to do. I'll keep you posted.

I think you are right. The crow bar makes more sense than what my first thought was.
As soon as I have the bike fixed I will get an alarm as well.

Dang, that blows. I too would have to wonder about the guards being somehow complicit in the shenanigans...

I know you said it's in a covered location, but have you considered pulling a cheap-o cover over it?

I live in an apartment without dedicated parking so my bike gets parked right out on the street. I cover it always. Besides being knocked over by crappy drivers (twice) no one has ever messed with it otherwise. I figure the out of sight, out of mind thing is what keeps it *relatively* safe.

Somone just stole the bar-mounted mirrors and mirror adapters of my bike within the last few days. My bike is currently parked in an under-ground parking garage (San Francisco)!

That's just the bay area "welcome wagon" doin' its part. Sorry brother.

You could probably go down the block and buy them back from the crackhead who stole them...

SF is a dirty, dirty place.
I was walking down market street once and there were people openly smoking crackpipes, and of course every street smells like dank.
 
Man,

That sucks. Install an alarm with a perimeter sensor. At least when some one comes near it the alarm warns them away and if they proceed towards the bike the full alarm goes off. At least it might catch someones attention and ward off would be thieves. Get one with a back up battery too.

I have the scorpio i600. It has tilt, motion, ignition, and perimeter sensors. I also always try to park in an area with many eyes and little traffic.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. I think the alarm and a cover are going to be next on my list.
 
If you get some sort of disc-brake mounted thing, be darn sure there is some sort way to reminding you it's there. I have a simple one, but I'm too afraid to use it. I'm certain I'd forget it was there and make it about half a wheel revolution before remembering it.
