I set up my gmail account through Outlook Express. When I send/receive, I get this message:

Header download for the '[Gmail]' folder did not complete. Could not select '[Gmail]' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your folder list to synchronize with the IMAP server. Account: 'imap.gmail.com', Server: 'imap.gmail.com', Protocol: IMAP, Server Response: 'Unknown Mailbox: [Gmail] (Failure)', Port: 993, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCCD2

How can I fix this? Can somebody help me please?!?!

Thanks

I use outlook (not express). In Outlook, I go Tools, Mail Setup, E-Mail Accounts, Add New E-mail Account. Then you have to choose the correct type (Microsoft, POP3, etc). I think there are 4 choices. Mine is POP3 (don't ask me what that means). If you go into G-mail using internet explorer, there may also be Outlook instructions or it may tell you what type of server connection you need. For me, fixing computer problems is a trial and error exercise. Good luck

Daryl: I tried what you said, but it didn't work....it does the same thing.

I logged into my gmail account, clicked on settings and followed the directions on how to set it up through OE. Everything matched their recommendations......don't know what's going on. Thanks for the reply.

I use mozilla thundebird for my gmail account, it sets it up automatically when you first start it up. It knows all the mail server settings for gmail and sets them up with little or no user input. Make sure you are set to use "pop" mail settings and not "imap".

See, that's the thing.....it said to use IMAP server port #'s 465 and 993. Another member told me to create another e-mail account and use POP3 server port #'s 465 and 995. It didn't change anything.

I also noticed that it looks like I have both imap and pop enabled...Its been so long since I set this up that I can't remember exactly how I did it. I just remember that when I first ran thunderbird it asked what kind of account I wanted to set up and gmail was one of the options. I selected gmail and it set up the server settings automatically. Of course I also had to go into my gmail account online and enable pop, and apparently imap too.

OK!!!! I got it!

Daryl and rickvan....thanks!

I must not have been doing something right the first time I tried changing it to POP.

K....another problem. I'm not receiving my mail at all now! This is so effing frustrating!

My gmail settings are:

POP: pop.googlemail.com Port 995
SMTP: smtp.googelmail.com Port 587

I would also check to ensure that OE has not set up a default account and that your gmail account is set-up to send/receive automatically.

Hope this helps,

You could try Thunderbird here Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox

It's made by the same people that make Firefox, and like Firefox very customizable. and as a plus in this situation it will set up your gmail account for you with a quick built in wizard.

Obligitory IS Tech Plug: Microsoft sux! Use open source

I'm officially an idiot. It's not OE, it's Windows Mail, BUT....it still doesn't effing work!

Thanks for the replies

Sounds like you have Vista? That OS is very buggy right now. Hopefully some help coming down the pipeline in the form of a new service pack. But in the meantime I highly recommend using Thunderbird for your email. Also, until IE8 comes out try using Firefox, which you can find at Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable it's a lot more secure.

I almost forgot to mention... If you don't already know, both of these are free.

Yes vista (hate it). Thanks for the link, I'll have to do that.
