I work for Delphi Automotive Systems in Kokomo, IN. You guys hiring?
I sure hope they are. Toyota, Honda, Mazda and Nissan are going to have to step up and build double the number of cars they have been making. Kaizen is the only way.

We just had a 30% reduction in salaried workers (I'm in engineering) and they just announced another 10% to happen after the first of the year along with several benefit cuts.We are not hiring at this moment. We are taking shutdown days because of sales are way down also but Toyota has not had a layoff yet... 2009 is not looking any better for the auto market that is for sure..
funny how sales are down and where i live honda just built a plant to roll 200,000 civics out a year and they are already starting construction on a second plant to double that number.
Honda was one of the few auto makers who didn't get sucked into the \"big trucks = big profits\" illusion. From what I read they are weathering the storm quite well...
people need to understand the huge impact the auto industry has in north america
People need to understand the impact that Manufacturing of any type has on a country. Over the years I have talked to many \"educated\" people that work in the tech or service industry. In some cases their perspective was \"get rid of all that dirty manufacturing and we'll be a better place\".
That's pure bunk. There are no world powers that don't have a strong manufacturing base. Without the ability to innovate and manufacture goods, we would be at the mercy of the rest of the countries that do. That's one of the dangers of the increased outsourcing we see going on. The more we turn over to these \"low cost countries\" the more we erode our base of facilities and human resources.
I guess pulling out of F1 is going to save them a huge amount of capital to.Honda was one of the few auto makers who didn't get sucked into the "big trucks = big profits" illusion. From what I read they are weathering the storm quite well...
The UK is a great model to reflect the consequences of this effect.People need to understand the impact that Manufacturing of any type has on a country.
