Re: Jacked up the oil change
GConn - Get the Motion Pro Oil Filter Wrench - It is a strap through a bolt. You put the strap around the filter, roll up the slack, put your rachet on the bolt and turn in same direct as loosening a bolt. It will take off any oil filter no matter how tight without destroying the filter. It dents it where the bolt is but your going to through it away anyhow.
I torque my filter to spec (12ft lb) and have no problem getting it off later.
Thread Hijack - I also switched from Mobil 1 15W-50 to Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 and I swear by the Gods of Motorcycledom that my bike's clutch is smoother on take-off and the shift from 1st to 2nd is smoother too. I've also read that since this is Truck Oil, it does not have the anti-friction additives that auto oil has that can make your clutch slip. I'm sold with my first crankcase full and plan on running nothing else at $21 a gallon!
Also changed to Purolator Pure 1 filter PL 14610, (it's 3.5" long, or you can use the PL 14612 2.5" which is the stock filter length, I went with the longer since it fits and has more filter area, and looks good too) it's a cross-referrenced match for the Fram PH6017A, but is only $5.88 at Advance Auto and removes 99% on first pass compared to 96% for the Fram. Also the spec on the pressure relief valve at 14~18 PSI with Manual Spec at 11.6 to 17.4 PSI, this seems close enough for me and it has the Anti-Drain valve. End Hijack.
I would say the oil filter is the most irritating part for me. I've tried every tool I have, yet I always take it off with the screwdriver method. It's just too tight. Don't know what I am doing wrong. I put oil on the rubber before fitting it on the bike and I don't put it too tight.![]()
