It doesnt care at all. LOL
I have 24,617 miles on mine now. first mile april 10th 2007 587 days later it runs great.

The mobil oil I use is 15,000 mile rated oil. 15,000 miles or 365 days whichever comes first.
Its fine I promise.
I am obsessive about some things and mobil one is the best.

The Mobil 15w50 synthetic is what I put in mine 2 weeks ago, but I did not know it had that kind of life. Thanks for the info.

Thats like 50 miles a day (even including 4 months where I couldnt ride it because my house burned and all my gear went with it)

Hate to hear about your house. I hope everything is ok now. When I ride to work, it is 40 miles round trip. I do not get to ride as much as I want on the weekend, because you cannot get a wife and 3 kids on it at once. But me and the boys go out at least one weekend a month for a ride. They usually average 115 miles or so.

dame i change mine at every 1000miles. maybe thats why my vechials always keep runing. lol. i got problems.

From what i've seen everyones bike is stll runnng. To say that you are treating your bike(car) better by draining your oil every 1,000 mile is crazy.

p.s. Did you just become a amsoil dealer or what? I've read a few posts over the last hour and it seems amsoil is your favorite topic. lets see, you spend $35-40 just on oil for every 1000 miles you ride? Ride much?

On that note here is a little tidbit of info.
Almost all of the wear on a engine comes at the begining of a oil change.
Dont believe it?
Test if for yourself.
Your metals content will rapidly climp right after the oil is changed and then slowly increase over the span of the oil life. Used oil (within reason of course) lubricates better than new oil.

Okay Irish, not just one oil question in a post but three???? I know you are sorta new, not really anymore, but there are members here who will have you draw and quartered, tarred and feathers, knee capped and few other lovely rewards for such a post. Now if this is an honest set of questions, well okay, if you are trying to start Oil War 5 that is a totally different story.

Oil is such a loathed topic that there was discussion in the mod section on banning all oil related topics, well not really, but close.

Point being, know the pain points of the Forum. If you really can't find the information by all means ask, other wise, please use the seach feature. Or feel the wrath of J. :thumbup:

So go make some cool footpegs.

thats funny, no i am not an ams oil dealer. i have built alot of dirt bikes in my time and have tryied tons of differnt oils and ams oil was one of the best on wear life. just wanted to let people know that. but all oil is usally good. i wasnt trying to start an oil war, now i can see oil is a touchy topic. sorry:spank: i always change my oil real soon because it just makes me fell better. I WONT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT OIL AGIAN:thumbup: but i was trying to search for some oil threads and my search wasint working, i dont even have a search anymore on my screen, i was going to ask if this happend to anyone els? it was their yeaster day and to day no more search option. all i wanted to know is what weight every one is using 10 30w 10 40w? and how many miles i could go with synt oil? i know how many with regular oil, but wanted to see the diffents.

the reason i was going to change my oil every 1,000miles is because it still new with only 1,500miles and wanted to get out all of the shavings befor they started to put wear on my engine. i wont contue to change every 1,000 as time gose on. i am not that much of a baller lol.

I change my oil every 6000 km & use Motul 5100 10W40 semi synthetic. I pay $60 for 4 litres of the Motul. Such a small price to pay for my peace of mind.

I use honda synthetic blend oil- makes my Yamaha faster!

Owners manual says to change at 4K miles, works for me.

Jacked up the oil change

Changed the oil on the FZ Sunday night. Got it up in front of my house, set on the sidestand...discovered that my drain bolt is back behind the centerstand AND sidestand, no matter which is down. Ok, set up the foil chute thing I read about on here, damn near broke the bolt off because it was so tight, and got the oil flowing down the chute while holding the bolt in just far enough to keep the flow from gushing, everything is going good and dirty oil is coming out well..until I dropped the damn bolt. Wound up with a quart and a half of oil on the sidewalk and my hands. Get the bolt back in, run inside for the 30lb bucket of litter i know is down there and proceed to use about 15 of that soaking up the oil, then spraying the sidewalk with a stain remover. Did discover that a turkey basting pan works VERY well by using it to drain the rest into the oil bucket after i cleaned up. Bike took about 3 quarts of Repsol semi-synthetic 10w40, runs and idles far better now than it did with whatever was in there, but what SHOULD have only taken 20 minutes tops took an hour! On the upside, the oil change in the spring is the move to fully synthetic Mobil-1 10w10...found it at AutoZone! Lessons learned for next time:

1. Use a pan to drain into. It causes far less spillage.
2. The bolt is in the worst place possible.
3. The oil filter is really easy to get off compared to my cars.
4. It was not as easy as I had planned!

Keep doing your own maintenance... don't give up now. My first oil change on the FZ was a huge pain in the rear. Learn what works, and stick with it. There's a large amount of satisfaction gained from working on your own bike.:rockon:

if you think that drain plug is in a bad spot, you don't get out much obviously. There's far worse out there. I happen to think it's very accessible. And I have the engine guard to navigate as well.

I would say the oil filter is the most irritating part for me. I've tried every tool I have, yet I always take it off with the screwdriver method. It's just too tight. Don't know what I am doing wrong. I put oil on the rubber before fitting it on the bike and I don't put it too tight.

I think the FZ6 is the easiest oil change I've ever done. Even with engine guards it's easier than any of my other vehicles. The drain on the side is way more convenient than my last bike which used a 22mm bolt in the middle of the bottom of the pan. I've found it's easiest to do it on the sidestand. I usually end up with just a few drips on the exhaust. Easier to just wipe them off rather than messing around with a foil chute to guide it.

Was it your first oil change on it? You can't be THAT hard on yourself if it was.

My first oil change? Took me 3 days to do and I had to use a screwdriver. Big mess.

+1 The FZ6 is hands down the easiest bike I've changed the oil on.

The BMW I had before this was ridiculous. The thing had 2 different drain plugs - the crank and the frame...the frame one shot oil out sideways like you wouldn't believe - 3 years of changing oil on it and still never found a way to drain that bastard without spilling. On top of that both plugs had crappy crush washers that needed replaced every time and the oil filter was encased in the engine so on top of being super messy to change, the only place I could buy a filter is from BMW for $20 a pop...yeah changing the oil on the fz is freakin heaven
