Agreed! Twisties, but Id love to do the track someday, Id much rather know whats around the corner so I can pick up speed without having to watch for traffic.

Agreed! Twisties, but Id love to do the track someday, Id much rather know whats around the corner so I can pick up speed without having to watch for traffic.
Man that is a hard call. I'd have to say the track because where else can I go pretty much as fast as I want, as hard as I want for 30 minutes without the worry of police, traffic, cells phones and dogs?
One thing I really like about the track is if you don't get a particular corner correct, it comes back around in about 120 seconds or so, very cool!
I do enjoy a nice set of twisties but I've never been able to got as fast as I can go on track in a canyon.

After work today I was facing a 35km slog through peek hour traffic or a 10km detour into the hills and a 100km+ ride home through the twistys....lol.
Gimme the twistys any day:rockon:. Don't have to ride fast, just get some nice lean going and enjoy the scenery with the occasional hoot through the sweet corners.:thumbup:
I would love to set up a track bike and do track days though. No cars and going like a cut snake sounds like awesome fun...lol.

Mike, your the only bloke i know who go's to the shop for a loaf of bread, and ends up coming home 8 hours later after riding round and round our great hillside roads! More power to you buddy!

I love the twisties, but my real passion is when i get the fz over to the drag track. It's not about speed. Drag racing is the purest form of racing...point a to point b....no distractions.....who's faster?....i love looking over at my opponent for that brief second and wondering if he'll beat me!

Chunky, don't mind Canadian_FZ6, he's got your best interest (and the people whom you share the road with) in mind. Don't get defensive just because he chose not to sugar-coat his statements. This ins't about egos; it's about good riding. There is a general rule that is especially true for motorcycles: the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know and how much more there is to learn.
Anyway...how's 6th gear treating you??? (that's a friendly joke, my man).

I like having some sort of destination: going to a place for lunch or breakfast or coffee with a riding friend. It's nice to have a chance to get off the bike every hour or so and have some one to talk with about the ride. I seem to enjoy it more when it's mixed with some non-riding time.

If I have to pick, I'd say the twistys. But how fast I go depends on different things like road conditions, weather, who I'm riding with, and the state of mind I'm in at the time. At times I can go pretty fast, and other times I need to slow way down. It's not always about the speed, although, I do like to go as fast as I can go SAFELY. I'm always thinking about getting a ticket, which I don't want, nor can afford. I'd like to try the track, but I don't even know where one is around here. At times I like the city streets, and at times I like freeway riding. I just like to ride. But I try to ride within my means and I try to be safe.
Nick, broseph, I'm in Citrus Heights, too. (long story...) So you're not far from a track at all: thunderhill, baby. And even getting down to Infineon (formerly Sears Point) in the Bay Area is not all that much of a stretch.
If you're at all curious about getting out onto a track, you might check out Lance Keigwin's operation.
Just get yourself a good set of gear, read the rules, and sign up! It'll change your perspective all for the better.
As far as the question that chunkygoat asked, I'm an oddball. I really bought my bike for commuting. So whatever the road is that gets me from where I am to where I need to be, that's what I ride. Sadly, it's usually slab.
Despite enjoying riding my moto, I find that if I'm going to go out to "do" a ride, I'd rather go and pedal. I'm a bicycle junky through and through. Sorry to disappoint y'all...

Mstewar, I used to be a pure pedaler myself when it came to two wheels. Now that I have the powered option as well in the rare occassion I have spare time, it's hard to decide. Sometimes laziness prevails - much easier to motor around than pedal. I do find that although the speed is about 1/5th that of a motorcycling, bicycling is often more exciting. It seems I can get "thrilled" on a bicycle at so much lower speeds that I don't feel like I'm risking my life. That makes it more enjoyable. Philosophically, it feels better to burn calories than oil for fun, too.
