Last week i noticed the oil level was a little high, just bought the bike. I drained a few ounces of oil and now the level is right at the top of the dip stick. So I went and fueled up and have been riding for the past few days. The bike has felt like it's down on HP and calculated only 40mpg on that tank of gas. I usually see around 50 mpg.

I put in 93 octane today, thinking maybe i put bad gas in it last fill up. Can bad gas or cause my symptoms?

Thanks, Ben

I want to be very sure of what you are saying.
Are you absolutely certian it is making oil.
I.E. the level of oil is increasing?

If so is it milky or is it thinner? Does it smell like fuel?
Hopefully I misunderstood what you are asking.

you misunderstand. I bought the bike used, rode it a few hundred miles, checked the oil, noticed it was a little high, drained a little. Right after i did this, i filled up with gas, and now my bike is slow. These are the only 2 variables that changed before my bike got slow.

Oh good deal.

More than likely fuel then. Run a hundred miles and refill and check milage again.

sorry if the they make oil, bad juju has went down inside. LOL

Oh, and if you are looking for more gas mileage - put some finger nail paint remover in your gas tank - Mr. 43 is a devout true believer!!!! :) Whacko! Whacko!

Steve I love ya brother - but but I'm not sold on that crazy idea yet.

What year and how many miles on the bike? But a used bike and change the oil and filter rather than siphon of a few onces. Check the air filter too. Synch the throttle bodies. Check everything. And if you don't check anything, chances are real good that your Yamaha will still run forever (maybe). Depending on the outside environmient (temp; road cond; traffic), your riding style (high or low revs), tires... etc, you'll find a real wide range of resulting mpg for the high 30's to the mid 50s.

EDIT: Your bike is an FZ6 right? You have cb350 listed.

I agree with what has already been posted. If the bike is new to you, then the only way to know what you are dealing with, is for you to address some issues. Change the oil & filter. Oil weight can also contribute to mpg, thought only to a small degree. Change the plugs. That way, you know how long they've been there. Plugs can also affect your mpg. Put in a new air filter. If she ain't breathing, your mpg will suffer. Check your tbs. Also, be aware that all gas is not created equal. Even from the same place. What I mean is, if your gas distributors have already switched over to a winter-blend of fuel, your mileage will drop. Also, check your tire pressure. Check your chain for lubrication.
But, if you feel there is a power loss in addition to your mpg drop, I would be inclined to suspect something like plugs, air filter, tbs, or some combination thereof.

LOL not a true believer, just someone that has tried it and noticed a difference with certain fuels with certian amounts of acetone added. I have frequently stated to test it for yourself, if you desire. It did not help enough that I continued to do it, just that I tried it, noticed a smoother running engine, and a bit more gas milage. I do remember riding up to the pump at 240 on the trip meter and the bike still running. I have never tried to convice a soul to try it, just shared my experince. LOL

you go boy :)!!!!!!!!!! I need girlfriend so I can borrow her nail maintanance kit

I bought the bike used, it's a 2007 and had approx. 1500 miles on it. It had the first servicing done, although I wasn't given docs for this. Oil looks fine, so i never bothered to change it. The plugs look fine, and i can't imagine a bike with 2500 miles needs a new air filter?

I'm thinking, maybe i got some water in my gas, and will try seafoam with my new tank of fuel.
