First long ride, what grips to buy now?

Took the FZ6 from Macon, GA to Pigeon Forge and rode the whole way and back. Rode the parkway some but didn't go to the Gap as traffic was horrible and riding 20mph in a line didn't sound real appealing. My hands are fried. I still have the stock grips and they are just way too hard and maybe too small, even though my hands are small also. What would be best to combat this for my next long trip?

Pro Grip #714. Gel grip, a little larger in diameter. You may have to cut the thick ring off to get the proper length.

Grip Puppies worked well for me; cheep and you don't have to take the existing handles off, these just slide right over the top.

I just put Oxford heated grips on my bike. I actually find they're a bit better than stock in terms of thickness (a obviously MUCH better on cold days around here :thumbup

I dont think I could put grip puppies over the heated grips. I'm worried they'd melt and I'm not sure they'd fit.

I said "Slide right over", I'd better clarify. You have to wet the insides, and the outside of your existing grips, with soapy water and then start tugging; took me about ten minutes per grip and I had some good-sized blisters on my thumbs a bit later. The extra thickness of heated grips (unless you do take the original grips off first) may be too much.

I too, find the grips a tad small, am also very close to buying some "Oxford Heated grips" and the grip-puppies would make them just the right size for my hands.

I ordered the pro grip #714's, so I'm going to try those and see how it goes. Have to cut the end caps off but there are good reviews on these grips on sportbikes.

Got the pro grip #714's in today and got them on. As previously stated I cut the end caps off and I also cut the thicker inside ring off, as the grip would be .25" too long otherwise. With the thick ring off the length is the same as the stock grip. Riding impression are very nice. They really reduce the vibration and harsh feeling in the hands. Look forward to doing some long rides to see how they cut back on fatigue.

I've had these on every motorcycle I've owned. They're nice and thick and so if you have large hands they make the handlebars comfortable again.

Hellgate rode my bike around the block and last I heard he was hunting for a pair.

Another pal of mine commented,"That's like sex in a handgrip." (I don't think he meant the double meaning.)

They are just the best grips I've ever owned. Period.

Not a good idea. Grip Puppies are nothing but polyurathane foam 'sleaves' and would melt if in direct contact of a grip heater element.

I installed a set of Grip Puppies about a month ago and I am not that impressed with them. They increased the OD of my grips and are not the best for people with impish like hands like myself. As for comfort, I didn't notice that much improvement and certainly no where near warranting "sex in a handgrip" feeling. Not bad, but not super impressed.

I'll be looking for a full replacement grip and considering installing those $50 grip heaters at the same time.
