Tire mounting fees

Do you all think that $100 dollars is to much to mount and balance tires if I buy the tires from them and bring the bike to them that is how much my local yamaha shop wants to charge? It will cost me about $450 for both tires mounted and balanced with angled valve stems and they are perelli diablo rosso tires i have priced.

Do you have a cycle gear store near you?

Cheaper tires, mount and balance for life of the tire, you have to remove and bring the wheels to them and reinstall.

100 dollars to mount a pair of tires is a lot of money......can you buy the tires cheaper on the internet and then have them mounted?

Sounds like a lot to me - I got a front and rear mounted at an indy shop for $50 total last summer and I brought in the wheels and tires.

My dealer wanted $70 to mount one tire, without me removing the wheel. I don't know what their tire prices are, since Parts never picked up the phone. So I bought over the Net and installed it myself.

Sounds too much in my opinion. Just to let ya know, I paid $278 for a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Powers, front and back, installed with balance for $278.00, which included tax at my local Yamaha dealership back in the spring. Hope this gives you an idea of what you should be paying, certainly no more than $300 if you get similar tires.

On a side note, the person who installed my bike made an error and I got the 2CT's on the rear. But I didn't realize it until a few weeks later when I was washing my bike. For once something has gone my way at the dealership.

Sounds a bit much to me my dealer charges $60 for both or $40 for one when I buy the tires from them. That's with me just dropping the bike off.

I got a front tire mounted today for $10 off the bike. Thanks to Cali Rider for the help in tearing down the front of the bike.

For reference, they wanted $35 for the mount/balance if the rim was on the bike and only $10 if you bring the rim off the bike. If you know what you are doing, it's about 5 minutes of work to take it off at home and drive it in.:thumbup:

$100 to mount two tires is not too much. You have to understand, these guys may have huge boat payments to make. And, it probably costs over $500 each time they have to fuel up at the marina. You add marine insurance, and all the other costs associated with a new boat and it adds up fast. Have some sympathy.

There is no sympathy for that they need to manage better. I bought my bike from there brand new, I didnt finance through them i went straight to my bank for the loan and brought them the money. If I buy my bike from there and then buy my new tires through them it should not be that much.

my dad does buy the tires mount and balance is free, except gold wings they are a little bit extra. but as far as $100 to mount and balance that is a little steep. However one thing to keep in mind is what kind of place it is. also did you haggle them way down on the price if you killed them on the money they made on the bike of course they are gonna charge you. to begin with there is not alot of profit on a bike. as far as the tires there is a huge mark up on them. plus tire prices have changed since the spring. after the warehouses ran out around july and ordered more the prices all went up at least $10-$15 just something to keep in mind. one other thing, avon tires have a road hazard, not sure exactly what it entails however if the shop is willing to they can get them replaced if say you get a nail in when they are still new. just something else to keep in mind. no others have it without paying extra and Im not sure if any others do it.

I bought a new front tire from a honda dealership about 2 weeks ago, they gave me a great deal on the tire, and installed/balanced for free! They normally charge 19$ per tire if you buy the tire from them, otherwise its 30$.

The Avon tire road hazard is in the first MM of tread measured in the center.
I wont buy storms again.
They are not what they are presented to be.
They last 6-7k, cup out on the front, and everything I have contacted Avon about they have not followed up on. Even to the point of not responding to emails after they said they would email me something right now.

I really really want to like Avon. You can read my posts from when I first got the bike, all the trouble I have went thru with Avon tyres.

Highly reccomend a different brand.

That's all I need to know. Do not buy Avon tires. Thanks! BTW, I was just joking in an earlier post about shop personnel needing to charge $100 for tire mounting. I don't care if they have a daily cocaine habit. As everybody else has said, $100 is a rip-off.

In june i payed $6950 otd for the bike I dont think I haggled them to much on the bike. I had been looking for about 2 months on different bikes they had shot me a price at $7150 otd door. The day I was ready to buy the bike I came in there and said I am ready to buy a bike today and they told me $6950 otd. I didnt haggle them down they came down on thier own.

$100 is too much. There's got to be a motorcycle-related parts place in your area that'll do tire installs cheaper, or even a car-related place that'll mount moto tires. I don't know about Illinois but here in California there's also a disposal fee -- something like $2.00/tire. Plus local and state tax, dealers prep, state and local licensing fees, registration is the responsibility of the owner...er, sorry, one too many radio contests and ads...

BTW, not wanting to see you get flamed and not wanting to be the PC police, but the "jew" comment is not cool. We can come up with a better term, that's not racial/ethnically derogatory, can't we? haggle? dicker? bargain?
