Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!

I'm skeptical that the FZ6 engine can ever be made truly smooth in the 6400-7400 RPM range. I've now owned two '07 FZ6's and had the same vibes in the same range with both. Both of those bikes had heavier bar ends added, fresh single-strap spark plugs, engine mounts torqued to spec, a barely...

Next Bike: FZ6 S2, GSX650f, or Sprint ST

This is exactly what puzzles me! My FZ6 only felt moderately vibey, but my throttle hand definitely would go numb. At the same time, a few people have spoken about the FZ6 like vibes aren't an issue. As an aside, for the last decade only Yamaha has made a sub-475 pound (wet), 4 cylinder...

Next Bike: FZ6 S2, GSX650f, or Sprint ST

The problem with the 17 tooth cs is that it pushes the manic part of the power band up to a higher speed. Heated grips don't work as well with grip puppies. If they were still available if go with Vibranators, but I'm a year late. Oh well, i can always go with heavy HVMP bar ends.

Next Bike: FZ6 S2, GSX650f, or Sprint ST

Hello everyone. I'm a former FZ6 owner and current Ducati Monster owner. I'm thinking of getting a second bike as a sporty light tourer/commuter with storage and I'd like to hear your input. This is my next motorcycle short list: '09 FZ6 - I've owned and crashed one of these before and I...

    frame sliders...best brand?

I will always swear by 2" OES sliders for the FZ6. I low sided my FZ6 at about 45 MPH, and if the bike hadn't slid into a guard rail post at that speed, my FZ6 would have survived.

    Stuff I've crash tested

I totalled my FZ6 last week, but as a farewell to this website I thought I'd post what gear I was wearing and how it held up in my 45+ MPH lowside. Despite crashing on a mountain road and sliding to a halt on the pavement, I walked away with only a small strip of road rash, a small fracture in...

    New Harley's

Harleys aren't my cup of tea, but who cares? Different 4 strokes for different folks. I hope Buell makes street bikes again. The street bike market is more exciting with their innovation in it.

    It was a great weekend

I'll take earthquakes. The ground trembles for 15 seconds about twice a year here without enough force to knock anything over.

So what's the verdict on the FZ8?

My uneducated guess is that since the FZ8 is pretty darn close to the 2006-present FZ1, it is reliable. The old tech also means you're probably getting less for your money than you would with some of the competitors' newer designs.

Riding comfort on naked and Fazer FZ6

$250 (U.S. anyways) should solve your problems. A. Get bar risers (1 inch up and 1 inch back from Gen Mar) or different handlebars to solve the problem. Bikemaster makes some good inexpensive bars. B. Call some upholstery shops and see if they can reshape the seat to keep your junk off...

Anyone else feel like Yamaha is losing its touch?

You guys are re-enforcing my point. While they may be doing great on the track, and their really expensive new bikes may be doing well, name a sub $10,000 all-rounder from Yamaha that you'd be excited to ride. The FZ1 is close, but has an MSRP of more than $10k, and at this point is a bit...

Anyone else feel like Yamaha is losing its touch?

The Super Tenere is nice, but it's about $14k and 580 pounds. The crossplane engine is cool, but is not offered outide of the R1. Still, name a new Yamie in the FZ6's class that's exciting.

Anyone else feel like Yamaha is losing its touch?

The newer bikes I'm excited about are the CBF1000FA, Ninja Z1000SX, Versys, GSR 750 as soon a faired version is available, and the new Z750 as soon as a faired version is available. Does anyone else get the feeling the Yamaha hasn't done anything exciting with their bikes since the 2007 FZ6...

    New Z750

The bike is beautiful. I almost bought the old Z750 instead of the FZ6, but the insane vibration and diminutive ergos scared me away. Hopefully they've fixed both of those problems.

California Law 'Muffles' Motorcycles in 2013

The old saying is that your right to punch ends at my nose. It is the same with loud pipes; your right to loud pipes ends at my ears. We were given a freedom to use whatever pipes we wanted, but it came with the responsibility of not having a significant number of riders with obnoxiously loud...

    Problems re-installing down-pipe after polish.

Today I took the exhaust off my bike and polished it to a silvery shine. While trying to reinstall the exhaust on the bike, I couldn't get the rear-most portion of the down-pipe to reconnect up into the rest of the exhaust. There is a wire mesh in the inner perimeter of the exhaust that the...

    HVMP bar ends (HEAVY!) review

Nice looking bar ends. I just purchased the 17.5 Oz. Manic Salamander Tapered Pounder bar end weights with throttle lock. It looks like the HVMPs are the best deal on heavyweight bar ends (cheaper than the Manic Salamander product by $20), but the M.S. is a fine product if you want a built in...
