Yellowjacket in helmet

so yesterday i was riding... and a yellowjacket (bee) bounces off my jacket and goes up into my helmet. He got wedged between my windscreen and my helmet, so i stuck my finger in there, and popped him out by opening the windshield...all while riding down the road. It wasn't a good experience, but could have been worse, ever happen to any of you?

I was doing a ride towards the beach through the Wildlife Refuge. I had the eyebrow vents on my Shoei RF1000 open for added air during the Florida summer. Then I saw a small dot rapidly zoom right towards me. It was a wasp, which hit the right eyebrow vent and came into my helmet with me.

The next few things happened incredibly fast. I yanked the bike to the side of the road while doing an emergency stop, ripped off my glove, ripped off my helmet and flung the wasp out. Luckily, I think the wasp had been stunned by it's impact with the air vent and hadn't stung my face.

My heart felt like it was going about a million miles an hour!

that is some scary stuff, the closest io have had was one squashing itself to my shoulder and making a mess on my jacket...

I haven't had a bee or wasp or yellowjacket or hornet in my helmet, but years ago in a bicycle race I had a bee get wedged between the top of my foot near my lower shin and the tongue of my cycling shoe. It strung me and my ankle swelled up, nice and puffy. I had about 20 miles to go and ended up dropping out.

Had A similar incident but wasn't as lucky... Riding in WV it was a warm day so had jacket slightly unzipped felt a hit on my neck figured it was a beatle or something, no sting 'til about 30 min. later while in a covered bridge i felt sting on my chest, in my bra!!!!! Honked my horn at my friend, made a quick right into a parking lot and started stripping as soon as I stopped. My friend is like what the Hey are you doing, then he realized I'm allergic to stings and saw the Yellow Jacket fall out of my bra. Only got one sting, and emergency tobacco poltice stopped a severe reaction. Thank goodness for Harley rider in parking lot that day, he was the only smoker out of 5 people there.. I was able to ride back to our camp take Benadryl and sleep off the mild reaction I ended up with.

Yup got stung, in the eyebrow. I had my visor open as I was talking to a fellow camper and just started riding forward. As I start to move the visor down a bee flew in my helmet. Before I could react, I got stung. The next day my eye swelled shut and turned a neat purble/blue color. My cousin who I was camping with said it looked like I got into a bar fight.

I was bitten by a wasp on the side of my neck just below my ear! I thought I felt something brush against my neck, it wasn't a hit, but it must have gotten caught up in my braid. When I felt the bite I brushed at it with my left hand, and pulled over and stopped as soon as I could. I looked down and it was crawling around on the tank; it got squished then!

Antiperspirant works really well to take the sting away. Fortunately we were on a camping trip at the time and had some with us!

first ride out...took a bee to the face with a 3/4 helmet with no visor....couldn't go to work that day.

Sh*t happens right? Full face with visor everyday now...i've taken rocks and fat bugs...I even wear a scarf to protect my neck on long rides.

Very smart with the scarf. I like to use a bandana, outlaw style. Keeps the bugs out and makes the helmet quieter too.

I had to laugh reading your prior post on getting stung under your bra. I had a mental image of a woman topless with a helmet, gloves riding pants and boots on frantically removing clothing and swatting at the pest!

How does the tobacco help the sting?

Sorry for delay in answering guys, too much work, no internet time... The tobacco poultice is just tobacco taken out of cig. and dampened with water, some chemical reaction helps counteract the venom, baking soda and meat tenderizer are better but mountains of WV on a Sunday = no stores for miles and probably not open anyway. I have pretty significant allergy depending on offending stinger, but can't use Epi-pen due to a heart condition, so I fall back on home remedies my Grandmother swore by and they haven't let me down yet.
