looks like someone drove it right into a wall...
I would take the front and rear sprocket, plus the chain. And the rear wheel.

You can definitely get a lot more than $1k for parting it out
Honestly, that's the only fate for that bike. It looks like there's frame and engine damage, so it was most likely totalled or the guy had no insurance.
Assumming there's no frame damage, it would cost at least $2000 to repair it to original condition. Complete fairing, forks, radiator, etc.
I would not buy that to fix/ride, but if I had the cash I would buy it to part it out or keep parts as backups.

I was at a dealership the other day shopping for a jacket...outside was a newbie getting ready to take his new bike home. I over heard him getting a lesson on how to get the bike into first gear???? Wouldn't you want to know how to drive a motorcycle or any other piece of equipment that could kill you before you left the lot??? Looks like this guy may have been a victim of stupidity.

I agree with the others here. Parting that bike out is the way to go for sure since there's obvious structural damage to the frame.
