When should fan turn on?

At what engine temperature should my radiator fan kick on? A while back on a warm day my temperature light came on. When I got home in my garage I noticed the fan was not running (but the temp light was still on) so I nudged the fan with my finger and it started spinning. This hasn't happened since but I want to keep an eye on it. Does anyone know the temperature at which I should expect the fan to turn on?

Mine turns on at 210 F and then turns off as soon as it hits 199. Keep your eye on this. The FZ6 has a repuation as bulletproof and so far mine is. The one "issue" that has come up on this forum 3 or 4 times however is a small rock can get stuck behind the fan blades and "pin" them so that they can't move. When your engine's cool check to make sure the fan spins freely, particularly after riding over dirt roads.

I've noticed that everyone mentioning coolant temperature has an S2
On my 06, we have bars representing coolant temperature instead of an actual numbers.
The only number based temp I've found is the intake air temp.

But for pre-S2's the fan should turn on at 4 bars.

I would guess that 4 bars equals 210°

Based on the manual, 2 bars equals 140F

So I guess all we have to go by is
2 bars means it's warmed up
4 bars means the fan comes on
Top bar flashing means let the fu**er cool down!

mine too, but thats exactly 100 degrees celsius. (european so celsius temps)

I read somewhere that you can wrap the exhaust in heat tape to help keep the engine run cooler. Anyone ever hear about this heat tape and where exactly it's suppose to go.

What hasn't happened since... fan failure to start or engine temp rising and temp light coming on? Have you confirmed you don't have a fan failure or maybe weak fan motor. Have you determined why fan didn't start like rock lodged in fan?

My '08 fan turns on at 212°F so I think you're fine.
