What would you pay for an 05 with 200 miles?

Hi folks,

First post but longtime fazer rider. As in 1986 Fazer FZX700 and looking to upgrade.

I'm talking to a guy who has a silver 2005 FZ6 with 200 miles on it, long story but I believe it is legit. It's in the shop now getting checked out and having the sprocket recall addressed.

He is asking $4500, a bit much for an '05 but this bike is literally spotless. What are your thoughts on a realistic price for essentially a brand new 4 year old bike?

Honestly, if the bike checks out and it is as clean as you say, I'd have no problem with $4500, although I would offer $3800 and try to get him down to $4000.

I had a 1980 CB750 I paid $1000 for in 2005. My first bike. The bike had 19000 miles on it as was spotless. It looked like a well cared for 2 year old bike. I sold it for $1500 when I moved from IL to MA. That was a mistake. Today I'd pay $5000 for a CB750 in the same condition. I had no idea at the time how nice and rare a bike in that condition/age was.

The concerns I'd have on the 2005 are parts that can age, rubber and plastic mostly, do to exposure to the elements. If these parts are good and the 200 miles are accurate, you are getting an essentially new bike for half the price of a 'current' bike. Hell, I just paid $3800 for a 2006 that was a little bruised. $4500 for a 'new' 2005 is a deal.

I payed $3800 for my 04 with 4000 miles So I think you got a nice deal there:thumbup:

I paid $3,000 from a private owner in January for my 05 with 4,200 miles on it. If I were you, I'd replace the tires or at least check for dry rot and make sure the dealer does the TPS recall too!

Thanks for the tip on the tires. I was already thinking about other rubber parts like fork seals, etc. but didn't really consider the tires. Good negotiating point if nothing else.

Hi everyone,

Thought I would give an update. I negotiated a price of $4200 on the 2005 with 200 miles. The seller then put the bike in the shop for recommended service and recalls. Turns out the tank had rust and the fuel pump had failed. Three weeks later he got it out and appears to be in perfect condition.

However in the meantime I found a 2007 bone stock with 2900 miles on it and couldn't resist taking advantage of the updates. I paid $4300, not the best deal I've seen posted but the best price I could find after 2 months of searching in my area.

So I'm now the proud owner of a blue 2007 FZ6, pic attached!
