What Oil are all of us Aussies using?

As usual, there has been a bit of talk about oil that people use in their bikes, just recently, was just wondering what all of us Aussies are using in their trusty steads....

I use Motul, either the fully synthetic, 7100, or the semi synthetic 5100, and think both are just great....

Would be nice to know reasons why people use a certain oil as well...if you can be bothered tellig us all!

using oil other than yamalube will not void your warranty.

I use motul oil cause it was recommended to me after I expressed my dislike for oil I was using.

Have tried shell VSX, and thought it was ok.

Have continued to use motul as my engine seems to run smoother, and quieter, and gear changes tend to also be smoother....oil also doesn't look like dirty brown water when I drop it after less than 5000km's, like another oil I have used.

motul was recommended to me by a friend, a mechanic, and a fat old drunk!

I was extremely impressed with the smoothness and quietness of the engine/gearbox after putting Motul 5100 in it.. will be using it in future.

I'm going to ask at the first service for motul to be put in, even if I have to pay extra, becaues its by far the best oil I tested in my old bike, and was also highly recommended

Only dropped oil out twice and I assume it was Yamalube as Yamaha did the job. It's out of warranty now so given what I've heard I'll try the Motul. May even do the job myself after doing the job on my chinese trail tonight. Normally I leave anything mechanical to the pro's cause I have a way of screwing up the easiest tasks.

5000km's is the limit for me, if i go on a big tour...like 2500km's plus, then i change it before i go, and when i get back....yes i know, i am a very sad individual!

I'm similar, normally every 3k with motul, or if I go on a really long ride (1500-2000k's over a long weekend) I'll change it after that.

Most Yammy dealers will use Motul if they cant get Yamalube :thumbup:

Motul 7100 here , came highly recommened to me by my mate who happens to my bike's spanner man......I to found that the engine ran quieter and it eliminated the gearbox *clunk* , also noticed to bike ran a lot cooler in the QLD summer heat :thumbup:.......Never again will i use another brand....

5100, and it was damn hard walking in and buying oil when i sell oil, but i didnt like my oil in my bike. I was hoping that the 5100 would fix the rattles and shift , but hasnt. At least this oil doesnt make my clutch slip at 175 like my oil did.

Sweet! I just bought three liters of the stuff!=P I just need a new oil filter, an oil filter removal tool, and I also need to borrow a torque wrench for the sump plug. Will be my first oil change ever!

Ive been using 5100 in both bikes & dump the oil every 6000ks on the Fizzer & every 2nd TD on the track bike.

Why? Cos I just do. I read in AMCN that you should dump the oil every 1500 ks & jusy use car oil The writer stated it was a lot cheaper & by changing it so often can only be good for your bike. I dont really believe that.
I prefer an oil that with can withstand the pressures of a high reving engine & wont lose viscosity after 1500ks.

Mate I would love to live in NZ :thumbup: Top roads down there. I flew into Christchurch & drove to Queenstown for some snowboarding & spent the entire trip wishing I was on a bike.

at this point, 60% of us Aussies use Motul.....that's a pretty damn strong endorsement! and i reckon that % might be more if it wasnt for dealerships telling people that if they use anything other than yamalube, their warranty will be void!

I would hate to take his word for it and end up with a destroyed bike to save a few bucks. Like you said a bikes engine is much higher revving than most cars.
I guess the question would be does he actually have an expensive (and new) motorcycle that he does this with?
I'd be guessing any testing they did with this would be on an older bike, which doesn't matter rather than anyones pride and joy.

Also doesn't car oil have an additive that damages bikes? Or the wrong oil destroys cats, remember reading a heated arguement over the use of certain oils (including car oils) and there was a few points that made it -alot- less attractive.
