I was just about to respond to the thread regarding the banishment of Tcmalker and it appears that it was deleted. I may be alone, but to me it seemed like a very valid topic to discuss. Perhaps the thread should not have been in a "Poll" format??

What kind of feeling does that leave for the "good" contributing members of the forum? To be honest; I am getting a bad taste in my mouth about some of the happenings on the forum lately. Sadly,I am not sure how much I am allowed to express without fear of posts being deleted or, even worse, getting myself "banned".
The thread in question did not seem to violate any of the forum rules other than being a bit controversial.

Tcmalker was a nice enough kid but he was also a pretty bad troll at times. Advocated driving unsafely, pushed peoples' buttons, and thought that the whole site is run by shadowy clicks looking to make money off all the members. I'm all for transparency, but this isn't much of a mystery to me. Guy acted like a troll, over and over, got warned, didn't change, and appears to have been banned. -shrug-
Honestly I just hope he lives long enough to learn better before one of those bad habits costs him too much.

In other words, that one thread probably doesn't seem to fit the resulting ban, but his entire body of work taken as a whole really does.

I don't have an answer to this but.....
Whether someone does something wrong or not maybe we should still consider each others feeling.
If we look at protocol for this great forum we might find a system in place that guides us to having rewarding fruitful interaction even if we don't agree on everything.
I think one of the things is respecting each other. You can't possibly know someone entirely from this forum and so how can you judge them.
Still you have a system of administration and moderators that must work together in these decisions regarding behavior. It's not an easy job for them.

I agree 100% to your thoughts on Tcmalker; however, that was not even the entire reason for my post. I am more concerned why the thread, which appeared to be a means to open discussion on why we thought he was banned, was deleted.
My response to gpostarmy's thread was going to be "Without knowing the details of tcmalkers banishment, I could not provide any constructive feedback".
It just seems to me that there should be a bit more forum community involvement in banning in general (and post deletion for that matter). Many of these matters are extremely subjective and I would imagine that the opinions of the banishment would reflect the diversity of the forum.
Nobody liked him. So someone showed him the door, closed it behind him, then everyone turned the music back on and the party has carried on.

This is exactly how I feel that the banishment happened. A perceived feeling of the community in general. I would suspect that there are members here that, not necessarily liked tcmalker' but valued some of his input (For example, all of those the decided to do the infamous "tcmalker dual headlight mod"). I was hoping that gpost's thread was going to open the lines of communication from the members to the moderators. Who knows, maybe something would have come out of said discussions which would have changed forum policy:don'tknow:

For the record, I have to say this is where I was 100% at first, and then I softened a little when he was a good sport about that Decision Tree I made, the purpose of which was to basically clown on the guy for always promoting loud pipes and bad driving. He didn't get all mad about it, and was a good sport. That bought him some slack with me, but not a lot. A week later I was back to rolling my eyes again at him, watching him tell younger riders to "not take any crap" from cars. So yeah, I think the ban was the right thing to do, given that he didn't change, but in there somewhere I suspect there's a decent, normal guy waiting to come out.
The only one I have made the conscious decision to donate money.
I have been on this forum for over 3 years, have been a Mod, and, or Admin for over 2 years! TC was a troll! Never have i seen so many reported posts for one member...we sent him messages, tried all sorts of things, etc, but to no avail....
I have better things to do with my time than deal with that crap!

He broke heaps of forum rules on many occasions, and the Moderating team did more than expected to help this guy be a valuable contributor, but it seemed he was intent on continueing to be a troll.
So, after way too much consideration, he is now gone....

Well, most of the time, this forum is a bit too touchy feely for me. I've been afraid to post my feelings on things for awhile. Vegasrider seems wrong or questionable most of the time, but as soon as someone calls him on it, one of the mods closes the thread or calls the person on it.
It's why I mostly just lurk anymore. I might post a few times if I'm bored. I prefer forums with distant moderators who are mainly just looking for illegal stuff. If someone is being a troll, I just exercise my right to remain silent. I don't have to feed the trolls...
And as far as there being cliques... Umm... Duh? Welcome to life. If you're part of the clique then it's just your group of friends. If you're not included for whatever reason (usually cause you're a douche) then they're a clique and so stupid. People who go on about it want to be in the group, but they can't so they hate them. Grown ups realize that you and them just don't get along for whatever reason.

I myself feel somewhat the same (scary to say)... I remember when i first joined and there were a bit more back and forths.. "people had a bit thinker skin" is probably the best way to put it, or "people didnt take everything so serious".. I know were are trying to cater to the masses, but I really believe that the days of calling people out over their bs are over, which is kinda sad.. a bit of that within reason is good every now and then.. but I seriously feel like the forum is moving to a too "sterile".. I come here everyday and try to contribute as much as I feel necessary. This is just as much my forum as it is yours and everybody elses (other then admin)" and we are all in this together.
I sort of remember the whole reason tc got banned and yea it was a bit excesive, but I remember alot worse back in the day..:thumbup:

^ Exactly the type of information that I would like to see.
Its like when someone gets fired from the office; the other employees are not privy to all of the details of the termination, but, there is a nice e-mail stating that there were efforts made, tough decisions, generic terms of termination that are sent to appease the remaining workers.

^^ This is what I would have expected to come out of gpost's thread. Constructive feedback regarding current policies and general impressions of the forum as it is today. Not to say that the policies are bad, but like everything else in life, they have to remain fluid.
