What do FZ6 riders graduate to in bikes?

After riding the almost 8 hours from north of Albuquerque to Tucson yesterday on the naked FZ6 I am changing my mind on my picks earlier. I still would love any of those 3, but there is something that would fit my like of touring along with my dislike of touring bikes, and that is the ZX14. That would have to be in addition to the FZ though, as I would much rather take it for around town than the big Kawakka.

Either white/red and peel the flames off, or the Monster one and peel the Monster logo off.

Here is my reverse story.

I grew up riding Harley's and then came to my senses and got into BMW's and old iron. I went from this to my FZ6 as it is a cheap and great commuter bike and seems to do everything well.

I guess as far as the original question goes, it seems like people come together into an FZ6 from different places, and afterwards they tend to split back into the groups from whence they came. Like, some people wind up on an fz6 because...

- It's sporty (but comfortable)

or

- It's comfortable (but sporty)

...the difference being in what they really prefer, but the fz6 is a good, smart compromise. So when people upgrade, it tends to be up the ladder on whichever path they came in on. If they like to tour, and find the revvy 600 limiting, then some folks go for bigger bmw's, or the Tenere, etc. But for people who came to the fizzer for its motor, they tend to chase bigger hp, going for true sport bikes. And for people who really liked the fz6 almost exactly as it was, there's the FZ8 or FZ1, or maybe a Bandit or something.

I didn't really come from anywhere, my FZ6 is the only bike I've owned, but I still agree with that idea.

I know where I'm going (touring), but I don't yet know if I'll 'graduate from' the FZ6 or just add to my garage.

Whoa, that Breva looks pretty interesting.

So, for me, I wanted to ride a sport bike, started on a dirt cheap non-running Ninja 250, fixed it up, traded it to a small shop for an R6 and realized it was nothing short of torture on the neck (but otherwise a blast to ride - it really has a bit more punch on the top than the Fazer).

At only 30 years old, I'm paying or all the years of poor posture and heavy computer usage with acute neck pain. I had to install the pullback brackets on my Fazer to even get it where it where it needed to be - a couple of inches makes a big difference (TWSS).

Anywho, I drool over all kinds of bikes, but I tend to be looking at comfort first, sport second these days. Street triples are beautiful, the FZ8 looks great, but the seating position is even more agressive than the 6, so it'd be right out. The BMW 1000RR looks insanely awesome, but alas, the neck. I only wish I had a big garage to make owning both a cruiser and a sport-tourer feasible and not have to make the choice.

I've currently got a thing for the Street Bob. Those mini apes don't please my eye, but after sitting on one, it was a lot more comfortable than I imagined.

I just dunno about scraping hard parts, though. I've never ridden a big v-twin, so I aim to at least go take a test ride and get it out of my system. Usually after a long ride on the Fazer I come to terms with enjoying what I have.

THe ninja 1000 and the z1000 are the same bike. The only difference is the z1000 is naked and the ninja 1000 has full fairing. Im torn between the two. I've also been eyeing a triumph street striple

If you are torn between the Z1000 and the Ninja 1000, be sure to look at insurance rates. Because the Ninja is a ZX bike, for some insurance categories, it goes in the same bracket as supersport liter bikes, so much more expensive. For that bike, it's worth finding an insurer that goes by cc only, not type of bike.

If you ever do decide to get a FZ6, let me know. I have a 2009 with 7000 miles on it, and I'd potentially be interested in swapping it for a 250 Ninja plus cash. With my two little tykes, 99% of the riding I do is in town, so a Ninjette would be a good bike for me.
