Hey Guys (and Girls)

I've had my Fz6 S2 since july last year, and have done about 5,500 miles on it. I was wondering how many miles any of you have got out of the stock tyres that come new on the bike? and what you'd recommend as a good replacement for when these start to go?

Hi Mark,

I got 7500 miles out of the factroy fitted Dunlop D252 rear at which time there was only about 1.5mm left on the front. I commute 140 miles a day so most of the miles were on the motorway resulting in the inevitable flat spot in the middle of the tyre, front and rear...

After much research I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Road 2 dual aligned compound tyres. Supposedly hard in the middle, sticky on the edges! I must say, so far I'm impressed...

After 3000miles the rear is showing only a very slight flatting in the middle. Due to the fact I've only had the tyres on in the cold wet weather, I haven't been able to get the bike leant right over and pin the throttle out of the corners, my favourite way of keeping the tyre's profile...

That was until yesterday! On my way home the roads were dry and the sun was out but I was still well aware that the roads were cold and I wouldn't be able to get much heat into the tyres. Anyway I took a little detour off the motorway to play on my favourite slip roads here...Maps of the world, street map search - powered by Multimap, well, to cut a long story short - pegs down, chicken lines gone, much improved front end feel over Dunlops! Winner all round in my books!

110 (boring) motorway miles a day. Yes they are square(!) but still legal. Should have changed them a while ago, but lack of money and all that...!

I got about 4000KM MAX on them, thats 2500 miles lol.
Had loads of fun in the french mountains tho, rough roads there

i just changed mine from the oe bridgestones (3000 odd miles on them) to dunlop road smarts, not had a chance to scrub them in properly yet ( about 40 mile), but, ive already managed to more or less match the chicken strips that were on the briddys... about 10mm from the edge, and i gotta say they are mightily impressive on grip compared to the bridgestones:thumbup:

Hi Mark,

My FZ6 S2 naked was bought in Feb 2009. The stock tyres lasted only 4825 miles, they were Dunlop D252 i think.
I now use Dunlop Roadsmarts. They are an amazing tyre IMO.
I did 12,068 miles on them before i needed to change the rear as it was just starting to square off and it was down to 2mm on the sides and 1mm in the middle. The New Rear is also a Dunlop Roadsmart, i won't use anything else.

The amazing thing is, the fronts still on and looking good for a couple of thousand at least. I'm on 17600 miles now for your information.

The grip levels in the dry and wet are more than required for all round riding. I commute a lot on mine hence the high mileage i did last year but i don't hang about when i see an open road

I just had my first change at 7700km. Still had some life in the Dunlops but I hated them since day 1.

Put on a set of Michelin Pilot Road 2

Once the OEM Bridgestones wore out, I used:
F Michelin Pilot Power
R Michelin Pilot Road 2

Great combo, quite a few people here in Oz rave about this set up & use it on a variety of different bikes.

I wore the front out after about 10,000km, the rear is still going and has around 16,000km on it. Still totally legal but you can see its looking a little shagged out. Been very very happy with these tyres.

Right now ive got a Metzeler Sportec M3 on the front (no $$$$ to change both at the time), besides havent done any 'proper' riding whilst the tyres are mixed.

I was clocking nearly 5000 miles until the huge screw I had living in my rear tire blew out the rear whilst i was riding - Stock tyres were Bridgestone's BT-020's at the time.

Last year, i went through nearly 5 tyres due to nails/screws [all BT-020’s]... I’m now running Bridgestone’s new 021’s both front and back and i am happy with them. The guy at George White was saying for a laugh - I have never had a guy make us so much business on tyres in one year... I didn't see the funny side to be honest..

I ride about 50-60 miles a day [all motorway], and after about 4000+ miles and counting on the 021’s, the rear is only now just showing a slight flat spot. Front still looks brand spanking new.

I've only bought Bridgestone, so cannot vouch for other brands... A few guys at work have honoured the Pilot Road 2’s as really good tyres. Maybe next time round i may try Michelin’s PR 2’s....

I got 10,000 on the stock Bridgestone BT-021s. Have used Maxxis touring tyres since - currently 9,000 miles on the front, 3,000 on the rear (had to change the rear Maxxis after 6,000).

I had the stock D252s front and rear for about 4 to 5k miles. After a couple track days the rear was chewed up and needed replacement. I went with the Dunlop Roadsmart for the rear, got about 5k miles on the rear now, very pleased with the dual compounds of the rear. Been riding alot here in Florida for school and theres nothing but straight roads here with very few turns. the rear still hasnt squared off yet even after 3k miles down here.

The front just got replaced about 400 miles ago, stocker lasted 10k miles probably had a few more miles left in it but went ahead changed to a front Roadsmart as well. Only got 400 miles on the front tire, but i can tell the compounds grip better than the D252. Tires have held their own in the rain, whether be a light drizzle or heavy I still feel confident with them. I plan to test these tires at Barber one day and see how they do with a track day or 2 under their belt.

For a relatively cheap tire that is good all around Roadsmart I think will be hard to beat.
Jus my opinion but the Roadsmarts are almost like the FZ6 itself. Relatively cheap and does alot, and its does well in all categories.:thumbup:

I bought my 09 plate this time last year. It came fitted with Bridgestone BT-020's of which I got 5000 miles out of the rear. The front is still fitted at 7000 miles and the 020 was replaced with a 021.

I must say I feel more confident with the 021 fitted and I understand there is a 023 out now.
