This damn f***ing media is wrong!!!

Today actually scared me....

I was knocked down (250 pound 6'0'') by a SVBIED (suicide vehicle-born improvised explosive device) today. The blast sent up 150 foot flames and a column of black smoke that mushroomed off after 700 feet. Sadly, it took 5 US troops out, civilians, Iraqi police/army, and many more injuries. After 12 hours of this happening, the media reports these as the "Top stories:"

"Stop Buying Baby Carrots

Bag Is a Huge Rip-Off but It's Not
The Worst: 60 Big Wastes of Cash"

"What People Use for Acne Treatments"

"Cheating Scandal Rocks Springsteen"

"First Lady Obama Gets A Wax Statue"

"The President and Pizza Wars"

"YouTube Might Have Hidden Drug Cartel Messages"


NOT A SINGLE THING UPON THE ATTACK!! :eek:
This is the largest attack upon US troops in over a year and a half.


May the injured US soldier live, and may the fallen rest in peace...

I'm glad to hear that you're ok. So saddened by the loss of the other five soldiers.

The story was fairly prominent on the BBC's news page when I arose this morning at 6 a.m. (pacific time). It was the first story I read...

The only useful points that I'd add is that, often times, when we see a list on a web site of "biggest stories..." or "most popular..." that these "stories" are on these lists not because of the efforts of the news media, but rather because of what the sheeple are choosing to read. The media outlet may in fact have some info available on an event, but folks just aren't reading it. And so the computers just do their thing, putting the "most read" stories into the the prominent locations or lists.

I'm not excusing the media of not reporting or of not giving such stories their due. Not at all.

And as for people choosing to read the story, we may also have to account for the notion that after so many years (7 or 8 now?) that there will be many people for whom the story has lost importance. No, I'm not saying that it is not important, not at all, just that there are lots of folks who will just tend to get complacent -- they bought their ribbon at wally world years ago and that showed they cared then and it's what shows they still care... even if they've sorta forgotten that it's even on their car.

Trust me, there are people who care about what's going on over there. I guess we're just not in the majority. Stay safe, brother.
 
Stay safe man. I wish I had a better answer than this, mainly the media is more interested in pimples on Brittanys a$$ than anything else.

I am sorry that you had to go thru that. I am sad for the lost lives, and damaged lives of people just trying to live life.
 
yeah.. the media is possibly one of the most evil things that exist in modern day society in my option. They drive up their ratings (make more money) when there is strife , especially when its amongst our fellow countrymen. That is why I believe racism is hurdle we just can't seem to jump over, they make so much money from it they fuel it! Just as with the truth of what goes on with our troops, if everyone knew the truth we might all come together in agreement on some issues and there is no money for them in agreement only in strife, struggle and hatred. I know this is not the case with all media outlets but I think it would be fair to say MOST.

Its a twisted screwed up system between the media and what they feel we need to know based on what will "sell"

Please tell me the last time you watched the news and more than half of it was coverage on positive and good things happening in your community.

It is for this reason I do not watch the news.

I check the weather channel online every morning...

the media would rather us not hear anything about Iraq and Afghanistan. that way we forget about it and we can get out before we finished the mess we started. that's why it goes unreported. that and the american people are 'bored' of it. so more interesting things like the octomom get reported on.
 
for some reason, i think that if it had happened with the previous administration it would be news. amazing how we used to get body counts on a regular basis a few months ago. now, it's not even news. hmmmm, i wonder why that is?
 
Hey Jazz - Remember MNCI PAO will verify the numbers and craft a response once most of the CCIR has been written. The story may show up a day or two after the event unless one of the news agencies is on the spot at the time of the attack.

I totally understand your frustration. Your over there fighting for you and your buddies and back here people are worried about the foam in their Latte.

I saw one of my gunners for the first time yesterday in since he was MEDEVAC'd in August of 2007. He was TBI at Reed for most that time.

Because KIAs are very, very low right now, thank goodness. At one point no Service Members had been killed over a three week period. I also agree on your perception too.

Dude,you just do what it takes too get back home here in one piece.The media is a joke here in America.and next time you post a thread about what's really going on over there try to make the title a little more descriptive.I would have read this alot sooner.be safe and don't ever get comfortable over there.:(
 
The media has a definite agenda and that is make sure anything that doesnt fit the liberal/conervitive slant needed to sell products is suppressed or twisted.

Show me a news site without advertisements, and with out government grants and I will at least know its the reporters own opinion and understanding of what he or she saw.

All we have right now is what ever will sell more tampons, condoms, pills, cars, tv's, cloths, cd's, and what not. Honest reporting does not exist on the TV. (G.D. idiot box as it was so correctly called)

Fair and Balanced mass media doesn't exist. They all have an agenda to push. Its even down to the local level in states as small as north dakota. Its interesting to see how they can twist a story around to their point of view, especially when you've witnessed first hand the facts. They do it so much its just habit to them now.
 
What gets me is that I watch the news to see whats going on, but how much of the news you see is TRULY right.

Of all the news I have seen on the major networks like FOX and CNN there have been 2 instances(sp.) that I knew personally, and BOTH were reported wrong.

1st was a report of 5 boys attacking a girl on halloween a few years back, they "reported" like they had basically raped and beat her up. That was complete BS, the only thing right was that there were 5 boys but only 2 were actually within 20 feet of her. All the 2 boys did was try to scare her because they thought they knew her and in the act they knocked her to the ground, yes she got a bruise or two and a few scrapes but nowhere near raping and beating her.

the 2nd was when they were reporting about local police catching a national fugitve. They were standing in front of a Walmart saying that he was spotted there and ran across the road and into the Ohio river were he was captured. The problem was that they weren't at the right Walmart they were about 20 miles away from the ACTUAL one that he was seen at and there wasn't any river close to the one they were at.

So how much media can you ACTUALLY believe 10% maybe

jrf - very good points. I really bothers me when a reporter/producer takes the easy way out and uses inaccurate images or descriptions. The one that gets me is a current story about the war and they use years old video footage. For example they are reporting on an action that day and they show Soldiers wearing uniforms and using equipment that is no longer in the supply system! Because the way battle is conducted vs. early one, it paints a muddy picture to the viewer.

I think they do this for more impact, because you will react more to seeing video of someone 'doing something' than you will to some news person talking at you.

Other examples are when they rip on Walmart they show the checkouts and someone counting a big stack of cash or swiping a credit card. Or when they talk about the treasury or the fed and they do the whole printing press bit. Or about the auto industry and you see video of a huge traffic jam on a freeway or maybe a factory.

Funny thing, I actually noticed that today too on Fox news when they were reporting on Guantanamo the soldiers has the desert camo with woodland body armor instead of the ACUs.
