I just spent 20-30 minutes outside with the D-SLR searching for stars....

Too cloudy.

Did run into a couple of nice looking ghosts, though.

Hooray for 30 second exposure! By the way, if you didn't figure it out, these photos are not altered but rather I set the camera for 30 second exposure and then ran into the shot, posed and waited, then moved and posed again. etc. hopefully you already knew this....

Your bike, with stars in or on (celestial, celebrities, or just star graphics will do)

krid80: Those are some awesome shots! I've limited experience with photography, so I've no idea what exposure time is and I seriously doubt my crummy smartphone camera has that kind of adjustability, but seriously, way cool!

Best of luck, humperdinkel. We've had torrential rainfalls today, so not even a chance to see stars for my part.

The Cookie Cottage. It's a bakery and coffee house.

A little late on this challenge, but since it was an interesting one, and tonight turned out to be a warm and clear night, I present to you "Star Trails"

That is fantastic, bd43, excellent work. Is that shot with a more advanced camera than say, a smartphone one?

I'm not sure about some apps for smartphones, but if you can get it to hold open the shutter or exposure as long as you can (Bulb function in film or DSLR's) you can do this with the addition of a tripod or smartphone holder.

I used a DSLR set to ISO100. The lens was a 16-35mm/f2.8 set at 16mm focal length and f2.8 aperture. The camera was set on a tripod with these settings and I held the shutter open for 4 minutes with a remote.

I had to tweak the picture afterwards to adjust for the background city tungsten lights and brought the brightness down to make it more representative of what it really looked like.

Here is the shot again as the camera took it without these tweaks...

Every once in a while when your out and about looking at something historic or famous their signs with have the latitude and longitude posted. There are also other more creative ways to get it.
