Ok, so lets just say it, the economy sucks... for some more than others... I myself am currently on funemployment, and i know others out there are toughing it out aswell...

So i want to create a list of mods i plan on doing, and maybe things that you are planning on doing so that we can all have some stuff to keep us occupied on a low income...

So here is my list of "low cost" mods.

1. picked up a cheap hugger, plan on cutting it up and panting it

2. painting the rearset plate.

3. removal of rim stripe

4. i have thought about removing the center stand, but there has been more than a few times that it has come in handy, it makes washing alot easier...

5. would like to pick up some screw covers, somthing like hot toppers, but not as expensive!

... lets keep it going...

What color did you paint the rearset plate? and you mean the heel guard right? looks like it's easy to remove. I'm thinking black with a clear coat.

I added reflective rim stripes and like them. I'm thinking of ditching my front reflector since it's not really needed since rim stripes give a lot of reflectiveness from that angle anyway.

I removed my passenger pegs -- I probably won't take a passenger for a while anyway and I think it cleans up the rear a bit.

I also removed my center stand -- I can always put it back if I want (although I hear putting the spring back will be challenging). I have front/rear paddock stands anyway.

Passenger pegs plus center stand comes to about 7.5 pounds weight loss plus it's less stuff to clean during washing.

I'm thinking of relocating the VIN sticker -- only requires a hair dryer and patience (I think); worst case, I'll use electrical tape -- that white on black is an eyesore.

I know a few folks out of work these days and it surely bites. I hope things look better in 2010.

Here's a cheap one. I wanted to get more visibility for my taillight (and brake) so I picked up a pair of leds from a local auto store, drilled a couple holes under the license plate light and spliced them into my brake wiring.

And +1 on the grip puppies!

well.. i just found out i will be working for the public school system as a electronics technician after christmas break!! best christmas present ever!
but i have the bike in the shed now, and after putting my buddies z1000 next to it.. there isnt much room... i think when it warms up a bit, ill let him take his out and work on mine...

any more ideas for cheap mods?? i know im ceramic coating the headers, removing the rim stripe... and possibly cleaning up the rear hugger a bit... but i neeed some more ideas...

Dude, that's just too cool :rockon:. Can you please give some details? i.e., which wire and how to get at it? what kind of LEDs (so I know what to get and what auto store)? how are they attached?

Snow anyway so can't ride for next few days.
