The other night a guy calls and says he has a snake and a skunk in his house. He's screaming like a 12 year old girl to the call taker. I don't know what he expects me to do when I get there (deputy sheriff).

Anyway, long story short, the house is trashed. Been eaten by termites for years and infested with bugs and rodents for even more. Holes in the ceiling and walls. No doors, just comforters and sheets covering the doorways. He's outside looking in trying to see the skunk.

I get in there and he can't shut up. "Did you hear that?" "No," I said, "I can't hear with you constantly talking."

I find the thing in a bedroom that is full of junk and trash. It's rooting around looking for food or whatever. He yells, "Shoot it!" I explain that shooting a skunk inside a residence will more than likely leave a reminder that a skunk was in there. "Shoot it!" he yells again.

I shot it. 40 cal, dropped it right there. No twitching or anything. And yes, the stench was powerful. I even put on the nitrile gloves, went into the bedroom and bagged it in a plastic bag, carried it out of the house and disposed of it.

He lives in the country, rural, surrounded by ranches. He must be a city boy. I'd be surprised to find out he DIDN'T pee his pants. Dang dude, grow a pair.

So yes, I shot a skunk inside a house (not mine). I then asked him about the snake. He no longer cared about it, saying it wasn't poisonous anyway. OK. I left.

Now that is what I missed about TX, you have all kinds of people. I was stationed in Port Aransas, and lived in Corpus Christi.

Hahaha!! I would love to see what would happen if an officer shot a wild animal inside OR outside in NY.

Cop friend of mine (NYPD) was just called to the scene of a suicide by train the other day. Said he watched as the dudes intestines fell out of his corpse as they attempted to move the body..lovely

LOL, that's funny! Doesn't Texas have a law on the books that states everyone has to own a firearm? He should have been able to take the skunk out himself - but then again it's best this guy didn't have one!

Texas, the only state where a valid defense for shooting someone is, "He needed killin'"

BTW, Kennesaw Ga has just such a law -> http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1818862/posts

I've been to Kennesaw, climbed the mountain there.

I'm a Californian by birth, Texan by choice. I've met people that feel they never have to go anywhere else. Different lot, they are. I live near Austin and it's a melting pot, much like SoCal is. Lots of people from somewhere else.

There's no such law and I'm happy for it. Holy cow, some people shouldn't have drivers licenses let alone a firearm. I think of the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Steve Martin playing Ruprecht the Monkey Boy. "Keep the cork on the fork." Texas isn't the only place with backwards people...

WV, TN, AR, KY ... Oklahoma ...
