The other night a guy calls and says he has a snake and a skunk in his house. He's screaming like a 12 year old girl to the call taker. I don't know what he expects me to do when I get there (deputy sheriff).
Anyway, long story short, the house is trashed. Been eaten by termites for years and infested with bugs and rodents for even more. Holes in the ceiling and walls. No doors, just comforters and sheets covering the doorways. He's outside looking in trying to see the skunk.
I get in there and he can't shut up. "Did you hear that?" "No," I said, "I can't hear with you constantly talking."
I find the thing in a bedroom that is full of junk and trash. It's rooting around looking for food or whatever. He yells, "Shoot it!" I explain that shooting a skunk inside a residence will more than likely leave a reminder that a skunk was in there. "Shoot it!" he yells again.
I shot it. 40 cal, dropped it right there. No twitching or anything. And yes, the stench was powerful. I even put on the nitrile gloves, went into the bedroom and bagged it in a plastic bag, carried it out of the house and disposed of it.
He lives in the country, rural, surrounded by ranches. He must be a city boy. I'd be surprised to find out he DIDN'T pee his pants. Dang dude, grow a pair.
So yes, I shot a skunk inside a house (not mine). I then asked him about the snake. He no longer cared about it, saying it wasn't poisonous anyway. OK. I left.
