Hi guys,

please, help me out. I am in London now, tomorrow I will start to Edinburgh. What is the best way (fast and quiet) to reach Edinburgh? I watched a map, It seems to me I have to use A1 and then A68. Am I right? By the way, what is the speed limit rules in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately if you need fast route then A1 is probably going to be best way, but will be fairly boring.

The A68 is a brilliant road, watch for the hidden dips where oncoming traffic can hide and the tractors. It is a bank holiday so expect speed traps.

Speed limit for motorbikes.

When you see a sign that is white circle with a black diagonal strip that is a national speed limit section, other signs are given in MPH.

National Speed Limit, dual carriageway and motorways is 70MPH, single carriageway roads are 60MPH

Generally the A1 will be a 70 limit with some sections signed at lower speeds.

The A68 is a maximum of 60MPH with some bits signed as low as 30MPH

On your way up stop in Yorkshire at Squires Bar, a big motorcyle meeting place.

On A1M come off junction 42, go West then North on A63.

Turn East on B1222 (signed Sherburn in Elmet) for 0.8 miles, Squires is on the right and serves food and drink.

It is only 2.3 miles from junction 42

Guys, thank you very much. Finally, I am in Edinburgh. It was really amazing trip. M1->A1->A69->A68.

A68 - the cool place for riding. You got lucky, because you live here. I saw many motorcycle's groups, and I know why)))) breathtaking views, a lot of interesting turns. Awesome!

I took many cool pictures. The stone on the border is very cool!

I know exactly what you mean Dan, I was up that way about 3 weeks ago (see this) unfortunately in a car and I was so disappointed that I wasn't on a bike, I know what you mean about the scenary.

With the stone on the border do you mean Hadrians wall?

Have a great time in Edinburgh, it's a lovely city.

This is the interesting picture. It seems to me, someone tried to do the following greeting: "Welcome to Sotland". Am I right? If so, just interesting why?
