tank bag question

hey y'all,

i see people using small tank bags. i'm looking at one that is about 10x14. i wonder if those larger ones will work on our tanks. didn't know if the big hump that we call a tank would make something that wide and long useless by the time it's held down. any experience from you guys? can i get one of those or do i need to look into a "mini" tank bag?

The large ones will work well with the FZ6 due to the bike having a large tank. The problem with big tank bags is that when doing twisties with them, it gets in the way of a full crouch. And the small tank bags just cant hold much. I have found the Joe Rocket Manta XL to be a nice compromise. It can hold a decent amount so stuff, but the contour of it fits the FZ6 very well and due to its profile, allows a good crouch for a serious set of twisties.

I have and also really like to Joe Rocket Manata bag. It does hold quite a bit of stuff.

I have a Tour Master bag, it's about the size that your looking for, and I can fit alot of stuff in it. It is a magnetic one so it just slaps on, and off you go. No straps to fus with or anything like that. I have never felt that it was in the way. If anything I actually lay on it. I keep important paper work in there, ins papers, title, and stuff like that, along with a pair of rain pants, extra gloves, and brake lock. it even came with one of those removable map pockets, which I have used before. It makes it really nice when you want to go some where and you either fold up a map or write down the directions and put them in there.

thanks guys. that does help. for me right now i don't know that twisties is a big concern. i'm more looking for "touring" gear. and i want something that i can put a map in. i really like the look of that joe rocket bag y'all mentioned. hmmmm, giving me something to think about.

yep, that's what i'm looking for. glad to know something like that fits well on these bikes. hmmm, the shopping list just keeps growing and growing.

I also have the TourMaster bag (actually 2 of them - one old one without the internal side panels to help retain shape and a newer one with the internal panels). I can't imagine not having one - it plus my top case is enough space for a (overpacked) 4-day trip

I have the Manta XL and it fits fine. I actually like the big size when I'm crouched down on the expressway. Oh, and I can carry a set of shoes or whatever i want in there

I have an Oxford bag, it is expandable, has a map pocket on top, two zip pockets on the sides, a waterproof cover and magnetic pads. The magnetic portion zips off to reveal shoulder straps so that you can carry it like a backpack.
