Tailbag and passenger? Need help to plan a roadtrip.

I plan to make a huge road trip from Florida to New York with my (girl) friend and my new lover (2005 FZ6). I will need as much gear as possible to fit everything I can on the bike and the passenger, but I never experienced with motorcycle luggage (my old 1992 Suzuki GS500e couldn't make the 40miles to Miami so I never needed anything more than a backpack) and I don't understand everything.
Is there a category of bag (tailbags? saddlebags?) that goes behind the passenger, or any way to know if a bag will sit on the passenger's sit or behind her? Most of the time the picture only shows the bag or a bad back view so I don't really know what to look for.
For example would this take over the passenger or provide her with a backrest EXL MTB-45 YELLOW MOTORCYCLE EXPANDABLE TAILBAG:eBay Motors (item 290314736481 end time May-20-09 18:30:00 PDT) ?
Does anyone have suggestions, or experience to share? I'm not really worried about scratches.

Tail packs usually sit on the pillion seat so no use for what you want. Generally panniers will still allow a pillion, but sometimes don't give enough room for the pillions legs.

You may be better with a rack (ugly) and either a hard case for the rack or soft luggage for it. Another option is a magnetic tank bag, however these can get in the way, especially if you are short.

A better option for a tank bang IMO is the baglux range (bagster) which has two parts, a leather tank cover (that can stay on the bike) and a bag that clips onto the tank cover.

Its all in how much you want to spend. There are several members on here like myself that do LD riding two up and manage great.

There is a touring subsection within this forum and in that there is a thread that I put together that is stickied. It is all about luggage and reviews from people on this forum. In there I also have pictures of my set up.

I run the Givi rack, and softbags. (Tailbag, and saddlebags)

Rummage through using the search function as well. We will be glad to help, oh and lets us know what your budget is. Thats a key factor.

I would go to your local dealer, explain what you are looking for, ask for recommendations and then find what you are looking for on the forum sales or e-bay.

There is a thread here that has suggestions for luggage but if you are not really sure and need the opinion of someone experienced but don't have any riding buddies to ask, I would go to the dealer. For me people can talk and talk but until I see something it doesn't make sense.

from FL to NY... with 2 people.. and a tail pack??? well.. i would sugess looking at givi lugage.. hard, lockable, weather proof, and will free up valuable pasanger space... other than that i would suggest a seat, your and your passangers butts will thank me .. good luck

A bag that goes behind the passenger is called a backpack There's not a lot of bike behind them to put it on unless you get a rack.

"top case" is the name for boxes that attach to a rack behind the passenger. One of those should give you most, if not all, the storage you need, depending on how well you pack. Those cases end up being around $500 once you include the rack to mount them to. Worth it, though, to have a locking box for your stuff when you want to just quickly pop into a restaurant or something. They are also nice for the passenger to lean against.

A cheaper alternative is to get some large saddlebags.$100-$200 (or less) and you can get a pretty decent set of saddlebags that will hold a pretty fair amount of stuff.

I have both, and we were able to easily pack everything needed for 2 people to take a road trip.
