I am in the process of looking for a new jacket because the 1 I have now I am borrowing. I found a synthetic leather jacket. Would anyone trust this or is it just as bad as textile. I know of course leather is the way to go. just looking for opinions. thank You.

Re: Synthetic leather?

Synthetic leather is pretty common with boots these days. Lots of race boots made with Lorica or similar. Haven't ever heard of a jacket though. I suppose it could be ok. From what I understand it's a little bit better than plastic. It has a fibrous type of structure like leather does so it should wear off in layers the way leather does and offer good protection. I suspect competition weight leather will offer better protection, but that's just a guess.

Re: Synthetic leather?

Supposedly in testing the synth leather in boots is just as good. I dont know just supposedly.

Comon guy's either you buy a textile moto suit or real animal leather.
All the know brands use cow or kangeroo leather ... I realy wouldn't ride with "fake" leather protecting my skin.

You can get a cow leather combi for nice prices, or search second hand. My Dainese Delmar was worn 2 weeks ( guy's bike got stolen ), I bought it for 300 euro's and it cost 600 new. Search and get deals .

Nothing bad about textile unless your only racing on the track.
I have both, and generally prefer the textile jackets - particularly for comfort and longer rides (there is of course some difference in protection between leather and textile but on the road your probably going to be dead if your at that extreme anyway, it also comes down to the specific jacket and its quality) , I would avoid synthetic leather in a jacket at all costs.
You can generally also pick up slightly heavier real leather jackets at better prices if your trying to save a buck without giving up the extra protection it provides. You won't look as 'cool'.

New Enough Motorcycle Apparel sells motorcycle jackets, pants and suits, boots, gloves, helmets, etc :: New Enough, LTD Great place to work with. If you order something and it's the wrong size, they will ship the corect size to you before they recieve the wrong one back. 3 days is the longest I have waited on anything I have purchased from them.

Sign up for their newsletter, and camp out on their bargains/close outs page. the newsletter will announce pricing below their closeout page.

I know absolutely nothing about synthetic leather.... that means I don't trust it at all. Textile jackets can vary widely in quality, materials, and protection. You can find one very reasonably and KNOW you are protected as best you can be.
