Hey guys, I posted this on my expedition forums, but seeing as we all like photos of trips and fun stuff, I figured I'd post why I wasn't riding last weekend!

We left early on Friday and took the 5 freeway down to the California/Mexico border crossing at Tijuana. Arriving in the evening at our "basecamp" of a friend's beach house, we were able to get an evening surf session in at Baja Malibu with good waves. We enjoyed beers and live rock music with the locals at a bar and called it a night after getting late night tacos from Rosarito.

We left around 10am on Saturday for our expedition to find good surf off the beaten path. We traveled south through Ensenada and continued to follow highway 1 to a little town called Santo Tomas. It was here that we veered off pavement. About an hour later, we came across the ocean again after a bone chattering off road session in my stock 1996 Jeep XJ.

We walked down the path by the fishing boats of the locals that live at Punta San Jose. Paddling out and surfing most of the day was excellent. We left around 6pm to have light out for the trip back. We dropped our bottles off at the store in Santo Tomas for our deposit and then got searched by the military at a checkpoint just north of Santo Tomas.

Getting back to the beach house after enchiladas and a few beers/margaritas was great after a day long expedition to nowhere to find surf. Enjoy the photos!

gassing up in San Diego (yes, we ended up at a Pemex...no gas problems though!)

HA HA!! I knew these pics were familiar, I see you're a NAXJA regular, so am I. Is that your XJ? If so, you have good taste my friend, an FZ with a XJ. There is a forum in TJ that I hang out in, we do alot of local off road trips.

Oh BTW, nice pics! I live in TJ and work in SD, thanks for promoting the still safe and fun country of Mexico.

Cheers!

Hey Slik, yup, I'm on NAXJA, Cherokeeforum and Expeditionportal! I've got TWO XJ's and the purple one isn't ready for a Mexico trip, but when it is, everyone is going to see some phenomenal pics and will WISH they were in Mexico.

It's a great country. USA is more violent than Mexico. Take a passport and you're good to go! We might head down at the end of August (and maybe July 31 ;)) I'll post up if I'm taking the FZ or the XJ down!

Awesome pics!!! I need to get south of the border sometime. Hit me up if/when you decide to organize a group ride to Mexico!!!

If I could get my bike to a rideable condition soon, I could help in a group ride down south. I know all the killer local food stands in Tijuana!! All you would need though if you are a US Citizen is a valid passport, if you have a permanent resident alien card that's all you need too.

Cheers!!

Dang man, looks a great time. I've got to learn to surf before I get too old.
I'm so very jealous. Thanks, I think...
