He's smarter now! The next time he'll look down the barrel first and then when it misfires he'll look down the barrel again. Maybe he thought a squirrel jumped in the barrel and was stopping the projectile.
Yes people keep your weapon down range on a misfire.

Crazy but i have a friend who has done almost the same...a couple of us went out to the woods and brought our pistols, all of us were gun safe and own many guns over the years except jon jon.....well i tried explaining some basics to him before handing over my. 45 like NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT ANYTHING YOU DONT INTEND ON DESTROYING, well he fired a few rounds then went to hand it to another friend while point it.directly at their head "fingure still on trigger" me and some one yelled jon jon what the he!!....so what does he do puts his other hand over the barrel as if that would prevent it from fireing....

As an NRA firearms instructor, this is a fine illustration of exactly why a gun is always treated as if it is loaded, with the muzzle pointed only down range. Muzzle can be pointed striaght up (or other direction, but not at or near anyone) only when unloaded and with the action open for all to see it is unloaded. A malfunction is treated as if the gun will go off at any moment, and the gun is unloaded and the action opened before inspecting it from the breach with the gun still pointed down range. We always wait a fews long seconds for the dreaded hang-fire, like the one that almost took the dipsh_t's head off. If you're going to use a tool, you better damn well know how it operates, and how to handle it when it doesn't operate as planned.
